Attention Washington State students in grades 1-12! The Seattle Sonics invite you to participate in the sixth annual Black History Heroes Challenge presented by Southwest Airlines. In honor of Black History Month, students are encouraged to submit a creative piece highlighting their hero from black history. By entering, students will become eligible to win great prizes courtesy of the Sonics and Southwest Airlines.
HOW TO ENTER:
Students may submit one creative piece describing an outstanding individual in black history or an outstanding African-American in their life. Ideas include but are not limited to the following:
Write an essay or poem (one page limit)
Draw a picture with a description (8 ½ x 11 inches maximum)
Compose music (three minutes maximum)
Take a photograph with a description (8 ½ x 11 maximum)
Be creative! All works will be accepted! Your creative piece must be returned to the address below by Friday, Feb. 17, 2006. Please include name, address, school, grade level, phone number, and email if applicable with your entry. All students in grades 1-12 from Washington state are eligible to enter. Judges from the Sonics and Southwest Airlines will judge pieces on creativity, relevance to topic and quality. Grand prize winners will be notified no later than Friday, Feb. 24, 2006.

Three grand prizes will be awarded. One winner from elementary, middle and high school levels will each receive:
Two (2) roundtrip tickets from Seattle to Los Angeles on Southwest Airlines.
One (1) night hotel accommodations for two in Los Angeles courtesy of the Sonics.
Two (2) tickets to see the Sonics play the Los Angeles Lakers at STAPLES Center on March 12, 2006.
Four (4) Sonics Suite tickets to the Sonics vs. Detroit game on March 3, 2006, and pregame recognition at center court.
Grand prize entries will be displayed online at SUPERSONICS.COM.
First 200 Entries will receive:
