Steve Nash
Guard, Phoenix Suns

Steve Nash is a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player and leader of the Phoenix Suns’ high-scoring offense.

Nash, who grew up in Victoria, Canada, averaged nearly a triple-double during his senior season in high school. He went on to play at Santa Clara—the only college to offer him a scholarship—and twice won conference player of the year honors. Nash entered the NBA as a first-round pick of the Suns in 1996, but then went to Dallas in a 1998 trade. He became a starter in 2000, leading the Mavericks’ high-octane offense that propelled the club to four straight 50-win seasons.

Nash rejoined the Suns as a free agent in 2004, and he helped engineer one of the greatest turnarounds in NBA History (from 29-53 to 62-20 in 2004-05) to become the first player born outside the United States to win the NBA MVP Award. In 2005-06, Nash received his second straight MVP trophy, becoming just the ninth player to win the honor in consecutive seasons.

Nash is an assist leader off the court as well, helping to raise millions of dollars for charitable causes, supporting young people through his Steve Nash Foundation, and promoting environmentally friendly practices. He received the 2006-07 J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award from the NBA for his numerous community service efforts, and USA Today named him the “Most Caring Athlete” in 2007.
