Kenny Smith is in his 10th season as a studio analyst for the Emmy Award-winning Inside the NBA on TNT. He joined the show during the 1997-98 season, shortly after retiring as a player.
In addition to his Inside duties, Smith served as a basketball analyst for the 2001 Goodwill Games and teamed with Ernie Johnson and Charles Barkley for TNTís weekly Listen Up! Charles Barkley with Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith during the 2002-03 NBA season. In 2005, in conjunction with the NBA and TNT, Smith organized and hosted the NBA Players Hurricane Relief Game, to provide assistance to evacuees of Hurricane Katrina.
Smith, a guard, entered the league as a first-round pick of the Sacramento Kings. He averaged 13.8 points and 7.1 assists per game in 1987-88 to earn NBA All-Rookie honors. After two-plus seasons in Sacramento and a brief stop in Atlanta, Smith went to Houston, where he played six seasons and helped the Rockets win back-to-back NBA championships in 1994 and 1995.
Smith was elected to the board of directors for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Houston in 1991. He graduated from North Carolina in 1987 with a degree in industrial relations (economic) and holds their career assist record.
