Earvin “Magic” Johnson is chairman and chief executive officer of Magic Johnson Enterprises. Through strategic investments, partnerships and endorsements, Magic Johnson Enterprises (MJE) provides products and services that focus on ethnically diverse urban communities.
MJE’s portfolio includes Urban Coffee Opportunities, the only joint partnership with Starbucks; Canyon Johnson Urban Fund, the largest private real estate fund specializing in the revitalization of underserved communities; Yucaipa Johnson Corporate Growth Fund, a private equity fund focused on strategic investments in underserved markets; thirteen 24-Hour Fitness Magic Sport Centers; and a long-standing partnership with AMC Magic Johnson Theatres.
Johnson is also chairman and founder of the Magic Johnson Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the quality of life in urban communities. The foundation has donated more than $1.1 million to community-based organizations that focus on HIV/AIDS education and prevention, awarded more than 800 college scholarships to deserving minority students and created 20 Magic Johnson Community Empowerment Centers to help bridge the digital divide in low-income communities.
Johnson, who played 12-plus seasons for the Los Angeles Lakers, is one of the greatest players in basketball history. His honors include five NBA titles, three NBA Most Valuable Player Awards, a dozen NBA All-Star Games, a gold medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona and induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He is vice president and part owner of the Lakers.
