Baron Davis
Guard, Los Angeles Clippers
Baron Davis, a two-time NBA All-Star, is one of the elite guards in the league. He was the only player to average at least 20 points, 7 assists, 2 three-pointers and 2 steals per game in 2007-08.
Davis, who grew up in Los Angeles and attended UCLA, began his pro career with the Charlotte Hornets, who selected him with the third overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft. He played 5 1/2 seasons for the Hornets, and then joined the Warriors in February 2005. He signed with the Clippers in summer 2008.
Off the court, Davis co-founded Verso Entertainment, a film production company, and ibeatyou.com, a Web site that provides a platform for people to compete in anything at any time. Members upload content and the online community votes for the winner. For example, in a recent contest involving movie trailer spoofs, Davis joined with Suns guard Steve Nash to parody the comedy Step Brothers.
In addition, Davis has formed two charitable foundations: TeamPlay, which focuses on mentoring inner-city kids through its social networking Web site, and Rising Stars of America, which utilizes athletics to teach values, ethics and life skills. He recently joined the governing board of LA’s Best, which serves the city’s children who are most in need, and serves as an ambassador in the Darfur Sister School Project, which raises money to improve the education of children in Darfur refugee camps.
