Mark Cuban
Chairman, Landmark Theaters
Co-Founder, HDNet Films & 2929 Entertainment

In September 2001, Mark Cuban and Philip Garvin launched HDNet, the first network broadcasting entirely in 1080i high-definition television (HDTV). Fueled by Cuban’s leadership and enthusiasm, HDNet has emerged as the leading provider of quality HDTV news, entertainment and sports programming.

Cuban, who grew up in Pittsburgh, launched several small businesses as a teen, and then put himself through Indiana University. He then started MicroSolutions, a computer consulting firm, and after seven years of nonstop work he sold it to Compuserve in 1990. In 1995, Cuban and partner Todd Wagner co-founded Broadcast.com, an Internet service that provided streaming audio and video of live news, radio, television and sporting events. In 1999, Yahoo! purchased Broadcast.com, making Cuban one of the wealthiest people in the country.

In January of 2000, Cuban bought the Dallas Mavericks, and he changed the face of the organization immediately. He instilled a sense of pride and passion in Mavericks’ fans by being the ultimate role model, cheering the team from the stands. His commitment paid off, as the Mavericks have posted seven consecutive seasons with 50 or more victories.

In addition, Cuban partnered with Wagner to create 2929 Entertainment, an entertainment holding company that owns Landmark Theaters, Magnolia Pictures Distribution and Rysher Entertainment, and holds a stake in Lions Gate Entertainment. The company also created 2929 Productions and HDNet Films.
