Detroit Shock

Swintayla "Swin" Cash is a star forward for the Detroit Shock and one of the WNBA's top offensive players. Despite missing the first 12 games of the 2005 season because of a knee injury, Cash made an impressive comeback to earn a spot in the 2005 WNBA All-Star game.

Cash helped her team clinch a spot in the 2004 WNBA Playoffs and finished the season as the league leader in free throws (158) and ranked fifth in points (526). She earned All-WNBA Second Team honors.

In 2003, she helped lead the Shock to their first WNBA championship and was named to the WNBA All-Star Team and All-WNBA Second Team. She ranked seventh in the WNBA in points per game (16.6) and twelfth in assists per game (3.6).

Cash joined the Shock after Detroit made her the second overall pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft. She had an impressive rookie year, leading the Shock in points (14.8) and rebounds (6.9) per game, while leading the league in free throws made (173) and free throw attempts (227). She also starred on the 2004 USA Women's Senior National Team, which brought home the gold medal from the Summer Olympics in Athens.

Cash enjoyed a stellar collegiate career at Connecticut, capped by her 2001-02 senior season in which she helped guide the Huskies to an undefeated 39-0 season and a national title. Cash was named to the Associated Press All-America Second Team and earned "Most Outstanding Player" honors for the 2002 NCAA Tournament.

Swintayla, which means "astounding woman," proves to be just that on and off the court. She is an active volunteer in the community who especially enjoys working with children. In 2005, she launched her own foundation, Cash for Kids, a charitable organization that assists youth agencies and schools in Detroit, MI and Mckeesport, PA. She is also actively involved in WNBA and Detroit Shock community relations initiatives including WNBA Read to Achieve, Jr. WNBA and WNBA Be Smart-Be Fit-Be Yourself.

Cash, earned her bachelor's degree in communications from Connecticut.
