Paul George To Lead Grand Re-Opening at Hawthorne Community Center

Official Release

October 30, 2013

Indiana Pacers NBA All-Star Paul George will lead a grand re-opening ceremony on Friday afternoon to unveil the new Pacers “Learn & Play” Center at the Hawthorne Community Center.

With the Pacers success last year in advancing to the Eastern Conference finals, the NBA awarded the team $5,000 to help refurbish a room at the Hawthorne Community Center just off Washington Street on the west side of Indianapolis. The Pacers Foundation matched the donation and Paul George personally added to it. George also donated a KIA car, presented to him last year by the NBA for being named the league’s Most Improved Player, to the Hawthorne CC.

George will be the main attraction along with the debut of the new Pacers “Learn & Play” Center at Hawthorne on Friday. Joining George will be the Pacemates, Pacers president Jim Morris, ex Pacers greats Darnell Hillman and Fred Jones, Pacers mascot Boomer and families and children from the Hawthorne Community Center. Diane Arnold, Executive Director of the Hawthorne Center, will welcome all!

The renovation includes: two new entrance doors; Pacers-themed mural along front wall; back wall with Pacers logo; flooring replaced; flat-screen TV and Xbox (with two games); new shelving and cabinets repainted. More surprises are planned for the children! Refurbishment of the room was completed with help from the Pacers staff, Hawthorne CC staff, Native Origins, Vision Painting, and Sport Graphics.
