Larry Bird Character Award
Indiana Pacers, in conjunction with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), the Indiana High School Athletic Association, Inc. (IHSAA) and Dick’s Sporting Goods will unveil the Larry Bird Character Award.
This initiative serves as one of the community outreach programs of the Indiana Pacers, and determined by criteria that are representative of the qualities of NBA Hall of Famer Larry Bird including academic excellence, character, sportsmanship and community service. Nominees must be a senior in high school and a member of their boys or girls high school varsity basketball team.
Anyone can nominate a senior high school varsity basketball player (male or female) setting the standard for academic excellence, character, sportsmanship and community service. Nominations must be submitted on the official nomination form and approved by a school administrator to be considered.
Nominations for the 2009-10 season are being accepted till March 1, 2010.

The top five male & top five female finalists will receive two tickets to an Indiana Pacers home game, and recognized during a special on-court presentation. In addition, each recipient will also receive a commemorative photo, a $50 Dick’s Sporting Goods Bonus Certificate and a finalist plaque for their achievement.
The overall winners (top male & top female) will receive a Larry Bird Character Award trophy, and a $1,000 scholarship from Dick’s Sporting Goods to an accredited college of their choice.
Winners will be chosen by a selection committee, who in their sole opinion are the best of the eligible nominations submitted, based upon the nominee’s academic achievement and community service.
