Comcast Adds Altitude Sports to Lineup
DENVER, Colo. (November 6, 2004) – Comcast, the country’s leading cable and broadband communications provider, this evening announced an agreement to carry Altitude Sports & Entertainment to more than 680,000 customers in Colorado, starting Saturday, November 6. The new 24-hour sports and entertainment channel will feature more than 70 Denver Nuggets games during the 2004-2005 NBA season. The announcement was made by Altitude CEO Jim Martin and Comcast Senior Vice President for Colorado Scott Binder immediately following this evening’s Denver Nuggets-Utah Jazz game.
The carriage of Altitude is especially valuable for Comcast customers because, beginning in early 2005, it also will include high-definition television broadcasts of select Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche games. Comcast’s HDTV service in the Denver Metro area offers 13 channels, including local ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX high-definition broadcasts, with no extra equipment to purchase or outside antennas to install.
“We are very excited to provide this valuable programming from Altitude to our customers in Colorado,” said Binder. “At Comcast, we are working to provide our customers what they want to watch, when they want to watch it, and in the best quality possible. Reaching this deal enables our customers to enjoy all the live sports contests and other great programming options on Altitude, but it also puts sports fans in the heart of the action through HDTV.”
“We’re extremely happy to welcome Comcast and their customers to Altitude,” said Martin. “Both companies have worked long and hard to achieve this agreement, and we greatly appreciate all Comcast has done in facilitating this deal. We’re also pleased that all our fans who are Comcast customers now have Altitude on their systems and will see the Nuggets and all of our other marquee events.”
Comcast will offer Altitude through its standard cable service to customers across Colorado on channel 25 throughout the Denver metro area and on channel 78 in Pueblo, channel 42 in Longmont, channel 35 in Fort Collins, channel 43 in Greeley and on channel 28 in most of the mountain communities.
Additionally, Altitude has reach multi-year carriage agreements with Bresnan Communications and U.S. Cable that make Altitude available to those systems’ subscribers via basic or expanded basic cable. Areas included in those agreements are other parts of Colorado including Grand Junction, Durango, Evergreen, Arvada, Golden and Ft. Collins; Wyoming including Cheyenne, Casper and Laramie; Montana including Billings, Bozeman, Missoula, Helena and Great Falls; and parts of Utah near the Colorado-Utah border. Altitude’s distribution in the Rocky Mountain West region now exceeds more 2.4 million households.
Along with broadcasting Denver Nuggets games this season, Altitude is the television home of the Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Mammoth, Colorado Rapids, Colorado Eagles, the Big Sky Conference, Air Force Academy, Metro State College, ESPN syndicated programming, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Utah Grizzles, as well as other sports and entertainment programming.
Launched in September 2004, Altitude is the television home of the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Mammoth, Colorado Rapids, Colorado Springs Sky Sox, Colorado Eagles, the Big Sky Conference, Air Force Academy, Metro State, ESPN Syndication (including Big 12 Conference, Mountain West Conference and Western Athletic Conference events), the RMAC and Utah Grizzlies, as well as other local and regional sports and entertainment programming.
