Nuggets Summer League Roster Set

DENVER (July 11, 2003)-- The Nuggets announced their summer league roster after cutting seven players following Friday morning's practice. The summer league team will practice at the Pepsi Center from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday before departing for Los Angeles and the L.A. Summer Pro League later that afternoon.

34 players began the Nuggets 2003 Rookie/Free Agent Camp on Monday before it was pared down to 23 on Tuesday. The final summer league roster now stands at 17 following the addition of former Minnesota Timberwolves guard Igor Rakocevicwho had been competing on the Wolves summer league team in Orlando.

In addition to Rakocevic, the team consists of eight returning Nuggets - Chris Andersen, Junior Harrington, Nene, Predrag Savovic, Jeff Trepagnier, Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Rodney Whiteand Vincent Yarbrough - as well as top draft pick Carmelo Anthony and Nuggets 1999 second-round draft pick Francisco Elson who has been playing in Spain.

The remainder are undrafted rookies and free agents hoping to make the team. One of those hopefuls is Denver-area native Brian Greene who led Colorado State to the NCAA tournament this past season. Pierre Wooten of Winthrop (SC), one of four Nuggets 2003 Open Tryout players invited to camp, was also among those selected to play on the Nuggets summer league team.

The players cut today are Robbie Ballard (Emporia State), Torraye Braggs (Xavier), Hondre Brewer (San Francisco), Kevin Fletcher (Denver East HS/CU-Colo. Springs, an Open Tryout invitee), Joseph Gomis (France), Hsin An Chen (Taiwan) and Schin Kerr (Loyola-IL).

The Nuggets will participate in both the Los Angeles Summer Pro League (July 13-17) and the Reebok Rocky Mountain Revue in Salt Lake City (July 18-26). The L.A. SPL games are held at The Pyramid in Long Beach, home to Long Beach State. The Nuggets first contest will be against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, July 13 at 6:15 p.m mountain time. The Nuggets' other L.A. games are: July 14 vs. Dallas (6:15 p.m. MT); July 16 vs. Houston (6:15 p.m.); and July 17 vs. L.A. Clippers (8:30 p.m.).

All Rocky Mountain Revue games are played on the campus of Salt Lake Community College in West Valley City, Utah. The Nuggets will play six games in the RMR begninning with a July 19 game vs. the hometown Utah Jazz (8 p.m. MT). The other scheduled games are July 20 vs. Indiana/Philadelphia (8 p.m.); July 21 vs. New York (8 p.m.); July 22 vs. Chicago (4 p.m.), July 24 vs. Phoenix (2 p.m.) and July 26 vs. Portland (6 p.m.). The July 22 and 24 contests will be televised on NBA TV, the league’s 24-hour television network.

Head coaching duties in L.A. will be handled by Ettore Messina, head coach of Bennetton Treviso of Italy. Messina will be assisted by current Nuggets coaches. Last month Nuggets head coach Jeff Bzdelik and assistant Jarinn Akana coached in a European camp in Italy. Assistant coach T.R. Dunn will head the Rocky Mountain revue team.
