Rocky Inducted into Mascot Hall of Fame

After 18 seasons as the “supermascot” of the Denver Nuggets, Rocky has been inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame. The Cleveland Indians’ mascot, Slider, and the University of Tennessee’s Smokey rounded out the MHOF Class of 2008.

To be eligible for the MHOF, mascots must exist for at least 10 years, impact their sport and community, inspire their fans, and consistently give memorable and groundbreaking performances.

Rocky, a mountain lion, who has performed at over 800 Nuggets games and once made his patented backwards half court shot in nine consecutive games, is not only renowned for his side-splitting antics and somersault slam dunks, but also for his involvement in the Denver community – at schools, fundraisers, festivals, birthday parties and more.

As Denver Nuggets’ team mascot since 1990, Rocky, the seventh official team mascot in the NBA, has been invited to attend 14 NBA All-Star games and has performed for crowds in 17 countries.

Rocky, who celebrated his 19th during the Nuggets-Magic game on Jan. 17, is currently enjoying his 19th season as mascot for the Denver Nuggets.
