With his MVP this season, Kobe joins the elite company of other Lakers who have won the award. 3 other Lakers have been honored with the MVP award in NBA history, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson and Shaquille O'Neal.




Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar garnered the most MVP awards in NBA history with 6, 3 won with the Lakers. Kareem took home the honors with the Lakers in 1975-76, 1976-77 and 1979-80, making the 70's in the NBA undeniably Kareem's. No one who has seen a sky-hook can ever forget the grace and elegance of such a scoring weapon, but Kareem's game extended to every facet of the game. He dominated on the boards and patrolled the paint to be a force at both ends of the court.

In his MVP seasons with the Lakers, he was also voted All-NBA First Team all 3 times and was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 1976 and 1977 and the NBA All-Defensive First Team in 1980.

Earvin "Magic" Johnson Jr.
Magic Johnson led the Lakers as they stormed through the 80's with Showtime. His peerless court vision and ability to play point guard at 6'9" brought a new dimension to the NBA. He won the MVP award for the 1986-87, the 1988-89 and the 1989-90 seasons.

In his MVP seasons with the Lakers, Magic was the NBA Finals MVP in 1987, voted All-NBA First Team all 3 times and was named the All-Star MVP in 1990.

Shaquille O'Neal
Shaq came to the Lakers in the prime of his career and transformed a successful team into one that challenged for the championship each season. Shaq personified power with his game, but it was his deft footwork and uncanny quickness that enabled him to from merely being big to being the self proclaimed MDE. Shaq won the MVP in 1999-2000 when the Lakers won their first of 3 consecutive championships.

In his MVP season with the Lakers, Shaq was voted All-NBA First Team, All-Star MVP, NBA Finals MVP, and NBA All-Defensive Second Team.
