Kings Official Media Release

SACRAMENTO, CA, May 11, 2011 -- Sacramento Kings forward-center DeMarcus Cousins was named to the 2010-11 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie First Team today after averaging 14.1 points (.430 FG%, .687 FT%), a team-high 8.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.05 steals, and 28.5 minutes per game in 81 games, starting 62 of those contests. Cousins joined NBA Rookie of the Year Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers), former Kentucky teammate John Wall (Washington), Landry Fields (New York), and Gary Neal (San Antonio) on the First Team.

For the second straight season, a Kings rookie earned first-team honors. Last season, Tyreke Evans was named 2009-10 T-Mobile NBA Rookie of the Year. It is the first time the Kings have had first-team All-Rookie selections in two straight seasons since the Kansas City-Omaha Kings’ Ron Behagen (1973-74) and Scott Wedman (1974-75) were named to the first team. Selected by Sacramento with the fifth overall pick of the 2010 NBA Draft as a freshman out of Kentucky, Cousins becomes the 14th player in franchise history to be named to the NBA All-Rookie team, and the 10th earning first team honors.

With 699 total rebounds, Cousins set a new Sacramento-era rookie record for total rebounds in a season, surpassing Lionel Simmons’ mark of 697, set in 1990-91. During the 2010-11 season, Cousins also established new Sacramento single-game rookie marks for most free throws made (18) and attempted (21) in a game in the April 11th contest against the Thunder. In that same game, Cousins scored a career-high 30 points. Among NBA rookies, Cousins ranked third in scoring, second in rebounds per game, sixth in assists per game, and fourth in steals and minutes per game.
