CLIPPERS READY FOR TRAINING CAMP OPENING ON SEPT. 28

Clippers forward Blake Griffin has spent almost a full year waiting for this moment, and now it is just four days away. Griffin will mark his official return to the court from last October’s season-ending knee injury on Tuesday, Sept. 28 when the Clippers open training camp at the Clippers Training Center. Griffin isn’t the only one who is thrilled to be back on the court, as the Clippers coaching staff can’t wait to see the 2009 number one pick in official action.

“I know how hard Blake works,” Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro said. “I know what his character is. Besides his athletic ability and his God-given ability, he’s a great kid and he’s only going to get better and mature. He’s a tremendous talent, a great athlete, and he’s a worker. When you put all those things together, only good things are going to happen.”

"He crazy good," Clippers assistant coach Marc Iavaroni said of Griffin. "He clearly has a basketball I.Q. that matches his talent and skill level. He knows what to do off the ball. I'm very impressed with the way he has shown his overall knowledge of the game in addition to just jumping over people. He hustles a lot, and he makes things happen."

While Del Negro is enamored with Griffin, he is also well aware what he wants to see from the rest of the squad in his first training camp.

“I want guys here that have the right mentality in terms of preparing the right way, wanting to improve, wanting to be coached,” Del Negro said. “It is a long and difficult season, and you have to have talent, but you also have to have a nice mixture of talent with character and guys who want to be coached and who want to be proud to play in the NBA and be a part of the Clippers organization.”

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES TO CLIPPERS GUARD RANDY FOYE

Clippers guard Randy Foye celebrates his 27th birthday on Friday, Sept. 24. The former Villanova standout joined the Clips as a free agent this summer and plans to have a low-key evening for his first birthday in Los Angeles.

“I probably won’t do too much,” Foye said. “I will go out to eat, but first I will come in [to the training facility] and get some work done.”

It was a bit of a different scene two years ago when Foye turned 25.

“That was probably my favorite birthday,” Foye said. “I had a big party at my house. My friends and family from all over came and supported me and we really just had a blast.”
