Cavaliers Sign Jason Kapono
The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed Jason Kapono to a contract, it was announced today by Jim Paxson, Senior Vice President and General Manager. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. Kapono was the second round (31st pick overall) selection of the Cavaliers in the 2003 NBA Draft.
Kapono, 6-8, finished his college career ranked third on UCLA’s all-time scoring list with 2,095 points. He was UCLA’s first four-time All-Pac-10 honoree and the only player in history to lead the Bruins in scoring four straight seasons. In 127 career contests, Kapono compiled averages of 16.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting .469 (699-1491) FG% and 44.6% (317-710) from three point range.
"Jason is a proven scorer who has shown he can knock down perimeter shots. We feel he shows great potential and will grow to become a very effective player in this league," Paxson said.
Kapono was named Honorable Mention All-American following his sophomore and junior seasons and was selected the National Freshman of the Year by CBS Sportsline in 1999-2000. In 11 summer league games with the Cavaliers, Kapono averaged 8.2 points in 22.6 minutes per game.
