Ron Adams Joins Bulls Staff
“Ron Adams is a very valuable addition to the Chicago Bulls’ coaching staff. He has proven himself, both in the college game and for the last 11 years at the NBA level, and brings a teaching approach that will help us become an improved basketball team,” said Bulls Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations John Paxson. “He has a defensive background and the ability to communicate with players in this league, which are two attributes that I believe will help us tremendously.”
For the past five seasons, Adams was an assistant coach for George Karl and the Milwaukee Bucks. Adams came to Milwaukee after stints as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs (1992-94) and the Philadelphia 76ers (1994-96). He also was a player personnel-scout for the Portland Trailblazers (1996-98).
“I’m very excited to be a part of the Bulls organization. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to work with Bill Cartwright, John Paxson and Jerry Reinsdorf, who’s done a terrific job over the years with his professional franchises,” said Adams. “The Bulls are a team that has great potential and a team that made significant growth last season. I look forward to being a part of this great organization that has such a promising future.”
Prior to his work in the NBA, Adams coached at the collegiate level. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach, at his alma mater, Fresno Pacific University in 1969. He was promoted to head coach in 1972, a position he held for three years. Adams was also an assistant coach at U.S. International, University of Cal-Santa Barbara, Fresno State University and University of Nevada-Las Vegas. He was head coach at Fresno State during a second tour of duty from 1986-90.
Adams, 55, has also been a consultant with the Canadian National basketball program, two Japanese professional basketball clubs and the Belgian Basketball Federation. He graduated with degrees in History and Political Science from Fresno Pacific University in 1969 and received his master’s degree in Physical Education from Fresno State University in 1974.
