Trey Heals All Wounds
As the Magic hosted the Kevin Garnett-less Celtics on Sunday, Stan Van Gundy was ... erm... not happy with Hedo Turkoglu's fourth quarter contributions. "I don't know what he was doing,"
recalled Van Gundy on Magic.com, "We come up on a fast break, he shoots it, contested, with 22 seconds on the clock. Then we get a rebound and he shoots a fade-away on the other side. It was mind-boggling."
But all it took was one moment of inspiration, a last-second buzzer-beating game-winner over the Eastern Conference-leading Celtics to be exact, and all was forgiven. Almost.
"We were kidding him afterwards – I was half kidding, I think everybody else was kidding – that the three bad shots he took prior to that helped him gauge the distance," said Van Gundy. “That’s one of those where you come in and you say, 'I’ll take it.' I don’t what else to tell you. I’ll take it."
No stranger to last second heroics himself, Boston's Paul Pierce was disappointed in the loss -- the second straight defeat in Orlando -- but didn't second guess the effort. "It was a good shot. I thought I played pretty good defense. (I) cut off his initial drive, he turned around and shot a 3-pointer from two to three feet off the line and sunk the shot. It was just a great shot.”
Turkoglu, Van Gundy and the Magic will take it.
