Will Bledsoe be a Star? A Former Teammate Says Yes

Jamaal Crawford and new Sun Eric Bledsoe celebrate as Clipper teammates last season.

First LeBron James gave his royal seal of approval to the Suns’ biggest offseason acquisition and now another recognizable name is heaping praise on Eric Bledsoe.

Bledsoe’s former Clipper teammate, Jamal Crawford, known for his ability to score in bunches, sees an immense amount of talent in the new guard in Phoenix. As a matter of fact, he’s seen enough of the young man’s ability to give him more than an impressive recommendation.

“He’ll be a star, no question,” Crawford told HoopsWorld.com of Bledsoe. “The guidance and tutelage from Chris and Chauncey and Mo Williams, who was here before, only made him better as a point guard. He’ll definitely be a star. I don’t know when because everybody’s [learning] curve is a little bit different, but there’s no question he’ll be a star. He has the athletic ability and he wants to get better. He has gotten better. A team like that in Phoenix, they’re going to see great results. I think he’ll be exciting to watch too. He was a joy to play with and his growth last year was tremendous. You never want somebody to get hurt, but when Chris went down, Bledsoe stepped in and he did a heck of a job.”

While, LeBron’s Instagram post was a nice confidence boost for Valley fans, Crawford’s assessment should carry more weight. It’s obviously not because he is a better player than King James, but he had a front row seat to watch Bledsoe’s growth last season.

That included 12 starts the third year Kentucky guard made for L.A. As the first-string point guard, Bledsoe averaged 14.2 points, 5.3 assists, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.3 blocks. Will those numbers be what Suns fans see in October when their new-look team takes the court? It’s not clear, but if you believe Crawford, it could be that and much more.
