Suns Head Coach Alvin Gentry

(Opening statement)
“I can honestly say I’ve never seen anybody shoot it like that. That was Larry Bird-like if you ask me, and I don’t know if Larry Bird even shot threes like that. Talk about shooting them under duress: he had one good look and the other ones, we were right there. I mean we were RIGHT there and he just got it up and knocked it in. I thought we hung in. We got behind again. I wish we could avoid doing that, but we have a tendency when we do to tighten up our defense and do a good job. We go from being down 19 to up 11, so that’s a 30 point swing, but we just couldn’t quite close it out. We had a couple great looks that if we could have gotten in it could have extended the lead, but you have to give them credit: they just hung in there. One of the things that we talked about is that they will play 48 minutes. We didn’t realize there would be an extra five, but we said they will play 48 minutes. One of the things I have to give Monty credit for is that these guys, I watched them last night against New York when they were down 20 and they were playing like they were up two. It’s the trait of this team and you have to say hats off to Monty. It was a great win for us. Obviously a much needed win, but I just thought we hung in. We didn’t get off to the start that we wanted to and we have to do a little bit better job of following the game plan. That caused us some problems as far as getting in the paint, but I just thought we kept battling and found a way to come up with the win.”

(On P.J. Tucker)
“I can’t say enough about P.J. Tucker, he epitomizes what we want our entire team to be, really. That is a hard, grind-it-out worker that never quits on any play. That rebound was tremendous at the end. I can’t say enough about him. I just think that he does such a great job. To have him on your team and to have him play like that night in and night out – and at practice too, he plays the same way in practice, I think is a credit to the professionalism he brings to our team.”

Suns Guard Sebastian Telfair

(On tonight’s comeback)
“Trust me that is not how we draw it up. That is definitely not what I want. It comes out okay and it is just about finishing the game and getting a W. I thought it was one of the biggest wins for us. It was our first two game win streak; we call it a win streak now that we got two in a row. So we are going to just keep chipping away at it and try to keep getting better and how to be a good team and make it to the playoffs.”

(On shooting 3’s)
“Last year I shot almost 50 percent from 3 so this year I haven’t been shooting it, but you know my eyes are getting messed up. The goggles have definitely been affecting that, but now I’m getting a little more comfortable about finding where I’m getting my shots in on offense and where I figure out how to be effective on the offensive end. I gotta knock down shots at this level.”

Suns Forward Markieff Morris

(On starting slow)
“I think we just need to pick up the intensity. Early in the game we come out sluggish and you know teams get up on us, but it’s something we working on and we just gotta keep working.”

(On being on a rhythm in a starting role)
“I mean it is a little different, but coach put it on me to be a starter. You know I have been waiting to be a starter and I need to produce and that is what I am doing.”

Hornets Head Coach Monty Williams

(On game)
“You got to give them credit. We got up by 19 and they got stops and made a bunch of shots. If you turn the ball over 19 times on the road it’s going to be hard to win. We made a substitution in the third quarter and everything went downhill. I just didn’t think our bench played with the kind of hunger that I saw from (P.J.) Tucker tonight. I thought he and Sebastian (Telfair) kind of changed the game”

(On starters)
“As for our starters, outside of the turnovers, I thought they played about as good as they could have played tonight. Jason (Smith) goes down and we’re missing one of our key guys off the bench and they bring in (Luis) Scola, Jermaine O’Neal, and (Jason) Dudley and you try to match that so I got to do a better job of trying to get guys fresh and get them back in the game but 19 turnovers is hard to overcome.”

Hornets Guard Greivis Vasquez

(On game)
‘It’s just hurtful the way we’ve been losing. We just have to play better defense. Our defense is just struggling. We always just put ourselves in situations where we have a good chance to win the game but at the same time we hurt ourselves because we don’t do it on the defensive end. You have to give [the Suns] credit. They outplayed us in overtime and they got the win.”

(On game)
“We lost as a team and we win as a team. We got to be men. It’s a young team but we have to come out here and play. Can’t be scared. Can’t be afraid to make mistakes. We got to put it together somehow some way. We keep losing and losing and losing and we keep giving up 100 points every game. It’s the players’ responsibility because we are the ones playing and we got to follow the plan and execute it.”

Hornets Center Ryan Anderson

(On close game)
“We have just had a lot of games like [this]. We’ve just had a lot of games come down to the stretch. We’re battling I mean but it’s just tough. It’s tough. Teams are making shots in the end and there were some plays where we could have made better decisions. It’s just being smarter down the stretch. It’s a learning point but at some point we got to learn from it and we have to play better down the stretch.”

(On team)
“It’s not like we’re playing bad right now. We’re playing well I just think we need to play better defense and make better decisions and eliminate turnovers. We’re back to 19 turnovers tonight. You know, we are starting games off well but we have little stretches where teams make runs. We just need to realize that’s a part of the game and counter that.”
