Suns, Mercury, Harkins, Coca-Cola to Host Backpack Drive

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury, in partnership with Harkins Theatres and Coca-Cola, will host the fourth annual “Back-to-School Backpack Drive” on Saturday, August 9 at two Valley Harkins Theatres locations and at US Airways Center prior to the Mercury-Lynx game that evening. Fans will receive two FREE Harkins Theatres Ultimate VIP movie passes for a backpack donation filled with school supplies. Suggested supplies include crayons, spiral notebooks, pencils and glue sticks.

The campaign will supply Playworks, a local non-profit organization dedicated to improving the school and learning environment, with backpacks and school supplies for the 2014-15 school year. The Phoenix Suns and Mercury, in partnership with Coca-Cola and Harkins Theatres, support this program to help ensure that Valley children achieve a successful start to the school year.

Suns alumnus Alvan Adams will make a special appearance at Harkins Chandler Crossroads from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Suns assistant coach Mark West will visit with fans at the Harkins Scottsdale 101 from 2 – 3 p.m.

The Suns and Mercury will collect backpacks on Saturday, August 9 at the following locations:

The Gorilla and members of the Solar Squad will also be on hand to interact with fans at each Harkins Theatres location.
