Phoenix Suns Broadcast Productions Win Two Emmy Awards

Sunderella Suns: Part One

The Phoenix Suns Broadcast Productions team received two Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards in the Topical Documentary and Live Sports Producer categories at the 39th Annual Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards this weekend. The ceremony, hosted by actor and comedian David Koechner, was held on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale.

Suns Broadcaster Tom Leander and Senior Editor Tommy Arguelles earned Emmy Awards in the Topical Documentary category for their outstanding work producing "Sunderella Suns," a one-hour feature that tells the story of the 1975-76 Phoenix Suns. In just the eighth year of the franchise’s existence, the Suns defeated the top-seeded Golden State Warriors in seven games to capture the 1976 Western Conference title and reach the NBA Finals for the first time in team history.

If you haven't seen the documentary yet, be sure to watch the first half at the top of this page and the second half at the bottom.

Suns Productions Executive Producer Bob Adlhoch received an Emmy Award in the Live Sports Producer category for “No Second Chances,” a compilation which featured Phoenix Suns game broadcasts from the 2015-16 NBA season.

Suns Productions earned six total Rocky Mountain Emmy nominations, as the team also received consideration in the Live Sports Broadcast, Sports One Time Special, Sports Feature-Segment-Program and Program Editor categories. In addition to Adlhoch, Arguelles and Leander, the Suns Productions group includes Marc Goldberg, David Grapentine, David Hughes, Dan Siekmann and Paden Wigness.

The Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards, which are granted by the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, recognize excellence in the field of broadcast production among all television markets in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

The Phoenix Suns will tip-off the 2016-17 season when they host the Sacramento Kings in the Coca-Cola Fry’s Food Stores Home Opener on Wednesday, October 26 at Talking Stick Resort Arena. Single-game tickets for all Suns home games are on sale now here and by phone at 602-379-SUNS.
