Position Overview: The Phoenix Suns are seeking candidates for a Payroll Specialist. This full-time salaried position reports to the Director, Payroll Services. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for all aspects of preparing payrolls on multiple pay cycles. The ideal candidate is detail orientated with a strong background in multi-state taxation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process bi-weekly, semi-Monthly, monthly, and supplemental payrolls for Suns & Mercury
    • Review and analyze timesheets, payroll payment spreadsheets and all other source documents for accuracy and process them in UltiPro PDE
    • Transfer timecard information from Stromberg timekeeping system to UltiPro
    • Balance all earning and deductions prior to finalizing the payroll for printing
    • Ensure accurate taxing of all payments for City, State and Federal purposes
    • Process apportionment of wages spreadsheets, as provided by the Payroll Accounting Coordinator. Verify correct State tax withholdings as related to the apportionment.
    • Process all misc payments, taxable fringes updates and other items to be included in employee compensation as information is received (i.e. Taxable Value of tickets, Per Diems, etc.)
    • Administration of garnishments and issuance of related payments
  • EE Maintenance
    • Maintain the data integrity of employee information in the UltiPro and Stromberg systems
    • Process new hires, rehires, terms, job changes and other changes in Stromberg
    • Review all PIFs for missing information and work with HR and/or Dept Managers to obtain missing information.
  • Monthly Reports
    • Prepare Monthly reports for Accounting (i.e. check registers & direct deposit registers
    • Maintain AR deduction spreadsheet by employee (annual) and e-mail to Accounting Monthly
  • Time off Accruals
    • Performs Quarterly Audit of Employee time off Balances
    • Works with HR to resolve any discrepancies
    • Reviews and makes corrections to time off balances subsequent to annual rollover
  • Web Maintenance
    • Provide login assistance and password resets
  • General Ledger
    • Create, review and balance bi-weekly payroll JE entry to UltiPro reports for Suns, Mercury & SES
    • Assist Payroll Accounting Coordinator with GL research
  • Record Keeping
    • Maintain all employee records in accordance with applicable Federal, State and Local laws and within accordance of all company and departmental policies
    • Maintain all employee records in accordance all company and departmental policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years payroll processing experience
  • Attention to detail, excellent communication and analytical skills
  • General computing skills including experience with Microsoft Excel & Word
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Experience with multi-state taxation (preferred)
  • Experience with Ultipro and Stromberg applications are a plus
