Now Hiring: Director, Arena A/V Technology

Position Overview: Oversees A/V technology needs for US Airways Center and directs the A/V department and employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages A/V staff including cross training for back up plans
  • Evaluates current technology in all centers for life expectancy, repair and replacement; maintains knowledge of changes in technology and trends for A/V systems
  • Evaluates equipment and determines, develops, and manages project budgets and oversees A/V upgrades for the venue and teams
  • Develops policy and training for A/V operators and technicians. Oversees organizing, scheduling, and prioritizing daily tasks to ensure tasks are completed satisfactorily
  • Reviews and evaluates all work logs on a routine basis to ensure proper and timely recording of work activity; analyzes logs for trending of A/V problems; delegates tasks to the appropriate personnel for problem resolution
  • Consults with the production, engineering, event operations, game entertainment and broadcast departments and with the teams to resolve problems and assists in their areas of need
  • Consults with the leagues (NBA, WNBA, AFL) and advises them of upgrades to their equipment; ensures all facilities are compliant with league mandate for scoring, audio re-enforcement, television and LED display systems
  • Directs and manages the AV department to effectively support statistics, game entertainment, scoring, lighting and audio during all arena events
  • Provides direction and information to visiting technicians regarding the building infrastructure; provides technical information and direction to game officials during sporting events
  • Assists in the creation of the annual department budget
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of A/V equipment, operation and maintenance in a sports arena or stadium
  • Must be an effective communicator and interact well with senior management, other departments, vendors and guests
  • Computer skills: Microsoft office – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of lighting control systems, digital signage, sound systems, scoring systems, RF systems, video system and all related infrastructure
  • Ability to read blue prints and complex wiring schematics
  • Ability to trouble-shoot system level problems and determine and execute solutions
  • Ability to take the lead and initiate solutions regarding mission critical game scoring, timing and press table operation
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards
  • Ability to acquire or produce and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license and meet company vehicle driving standards

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • College level management/business courses and technical school training preferred


  • Three to five years of experience in management, operation and maintenance of A/V systems in a sports arena or multiuse facility, highly preferred
