The Suns' "work in progress" has officially become a construction zone. Hard hats and steel-toed boots are now required.

The latest move, however, begs the question: What exactly is the blueprint for this project?

Wednesday's trade that shipped out mainstays Raja Bell and Boris Diaw and brought in dynamic shooter Jason Richardson and forward Jared Dudley follows last spring's Shawn Marion/Shaquille O'Neal trade and the switch from coach Mike D'Antoni to Terry Porter over the summer.

Now in the late fall, the tea leaves have turned again - apparently, it's a U-turn.

While O'Neal was brought in to shore up the rebounding and Porter was brought aboard to preach defense, trading for Richardson is a throwback to the run-and-gun Suns - a player who thrived under Don Nelson, plays defense only occasionally and will require plenty of touches on a team that doesn't have enough basketballs already.
