NEW YORK - The Knicks and Suns hook up tonight for the first time this season.

That's good for the Suns, bad for the Knicks.

The Suns, with their unworldly fast pace, have been especially tough this season for teams that are playing them for the first time. They are 22-5 in these situations, compared to 10-5 in return engagements. They'll face first-opponents twice in the first three games of this six-game trip (the season's longest) that begins today; they'll visit Boston on Friday.

"It shocks teams a little bit," coach Mike D'Antoni said of the Suns' pedal-to-the-metal style.

Said Quentin Richardson, "You don't really know what to expect until you play us.

"It's difficult to simulate how fast it feels and how fast things happen."
