2010-11 Suns Dancers Auditions Breakdown

    Audition Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age by Saturday, July 10
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • If hired, you must provide the documents required to prove you are authorized to work in the United States
  • Required attire for prelims, semi-finals, training camp, and finals is a half top of any style, form-fitting shorts or skirt, and shoes with non-marking soles. No pants! Prep class attire is up to the dancer’s discretion.
  • Must submit a non-returnable individual photo (headshot preferred) at least 5x7 in size
  • Must submit a non-returnable resume
  • Hair and makeup should be sophisticated and glamorous. You are encouraged to bring touchup makeup and hair products.
  • Visible tattoos should be covered with makeup and body piercings should be removed
  • Being a Suns Dancer is a year round commitment so you must have a flexible schedule and be able to attend community appearances, most home games, and all practices
  • Must live in the Phoenix area and have reliable means of transportation

    Saturday, July 10
    Preliminary Audition

    Location: Talking Stick Resort
    9800 E. Indian Bend Rd.
    Scottsdale, AZ 85256
    The resort offers complimentary valet parking (recommended for convenience) or there is also self parking in the garage.
    Registration: 9:00-10:00am
    Preliminary Audition: 10:00am-4:00pm (approx)
    The preliminary round will begin with learning a technique combination which will include turns, kicks and leaps. Dancers will audition this routine across the floor in small groups for a panel of judges where first cuts will be made. Those making it to the next round will then learn the audition routine which will include stylized choreography. Before breaking into groups for the judges, dancers will get a 45 min lunch break to eat and freshen up. NO OUTSIDE FOOD IS ALLOWED in the resort. Please eat a hearty breakfast before arriving. Water will be provided throughout the day and there are numerous lunch options in the resort to choose from. After the short break, dancers will return and perform the routine in small groups for the judges. Another round of cuts will be made. Dancers making it through the second round of cuts will be asked to return Sunday, July 11 for Semi-Finals.

    Sunday, July 11

    Location: US Airways Center
    201 E. Jefferson Street
    Phoenix, AZ 85004
    Enter through Guest Relations Doors (located on ground level of parking garage)
    Parking is free in attached garage
    Interviews/Photo Shoot: 8:00am-2:30pm (approx)
    Semi-Final Audition: 3:00-5:00pm (approx)
    Each semi-finalist will be given an interview time on Saturday evening. Attire for the interviews is up to the dancer’s discretion but you are expected to dress professionally and appropriately. The interviews will be approx 10-15 min in length. After interviewing, dancers will have an individual photo shoot session with the team’s photographer. When the interviews and photo shoot are complete, dancers will be asked to change into dance clothes and wait for the performance part of the day to begin. The semi-finalists will perform the audition routine learned on Saturday again for judges along with 6 eight counts of original choreography. Dancers will be given the chosen choreography song on Saturday. The dancers who will be asked to attend training camp will be announced at the end of the day.

    Tuesday, July 13 & Thursday, July 15
    Training Camp

    Other details for training camp will be made available to the finalists on Sunday. Both nights are mandatory!

    Sunday, July 18

    The final round of auditions will include auditioning all three routines learned throughout the course of the week in small groups for a panel of judges.

    The 2010-11 Suns Dancers will be announced the following week!

    All scores and decisions are final! Score sheets will not be available for candidate review.
