'SunsCentral' Earns 'Heart of Business Award'
Posted: October 19, 2012
The Phoenix Suns were honored last night at the Phoenix Business Journal’s “Heart of Business Awards” for the recent launch of “SunsCentral,” a unique education-based partnership between the Suns and Central High School (CHS).
The “SunsCentral” partnership is the result of a $500,000 grant, over two years, that Phoenix Suns Charities is donating to Central High School. The initiative aims to provide support services to struggling CHS students to help keep them in school.
The program focuses on four key factors that directly impact a student’s likelihood of staying in school: success in the classroom, attendance at school, mentoring and work-study. The Suns have deployed resources focused on each, and will continue to sustain a presence at CHS through facility improvements, volunteer hours and entertainment elements at school functions.
The annual “Heart of Business Awards” recognizes businesses and executives who have contributed to the community across categories that include community stewardship, volunteer program of the year, outstanding company project and volunteer executive of the year.
