The Phoenix Suns and Southwest Airlines announce Herrera Elementary School, Sonoran Science Academy, Holdeman Elementary School and Paragon Science Academy as the 2012 “We Luv It Here” program grant recipients.

The Suns Gorilla will present a $5,000 grant to each of the four schools during a check presentation on the Bud Light Paseo prior to the Suns home matchup against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, April 25. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

In addition, each student in the winning fifth grade classrooms will receive a “We Luv It Here” t-shirt and a ticket to enjoy the game that evening.

The Suns and Southwest Airlines partnered to bring the eighth annual “We Luv It Here” contest to elementary schools in Maricopa County.

The cash grants were awarded based on school improvement proposals submitted by fifth grade classrooms at each of the schools. Finalists were selected based on site visits to the schools, and the fifth grade students were then asked to present their plan to the judges.
