After helping to lead the Suns to a four-game win streak and a perfect 3-0 week, forward Amaré Stoudemire was named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for Mar. 10-16, the NBA announced today.

This is Stoudemire’s second NBA Player of the Week honor this season and the fifth of his career. Stoudemire also won the award on Feb. 11, 2008, Feb. 26, 2007, Dec. 13, 2004 and Nov. 22, 2004.

The 6-10, 245-pound forward wins the award for a week in which the Suns defeated three Western Conference opponents and in which he averaged a team-high 31.7 points, a team-leading 11.3 rebounds, 1.67 blocks and shot 66.0 percent from the field (35-of-53). STAT posted three consecutive double-doubles, including back-to-back 30-point, 10-rebound efforts in the week’s final two games. It marked the third time this season the sixth-year pro has tallied consecutive 30-10 games, a feat he achieved three times in his first five seasons (302 career games).

In what many called his best game of the season, Stoudemire totaled 36 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks, four assists and shot 13-of-21 (.619) from the field in the Suns’ 123-115 victory on Mar. 13 over Pacific Division rival Golden State, a team Phoenix is battling for playoff position. Overall, Stoudemire is averaging 28.7 points, 10.1 boards and 2.0 blocks since the Suns’ blockbuster trade on Feb. 6.

A three-time NBA All-Star (2008, 2007, 2005), Stoudemire is averaging team-highs in points (24.3, 6th-NBA), rebounds (9.3, 19th) and blocks (career-high 2.22, 6th), and the highest field goal percentage in team history since Oliver Miller in 1993-94 (career-high .585, 5th).

Just one game out of the Pacific Division lead, the Suns (44-22) currently hold the fifth seed in the Western Conference and have won four-straight games. Phoenix begins a two-game road trip through Portland (35-32) and Seattle (16-51) on Tuesday night at The Rose Garden against the Trail Blazers. Both games can be seen on My45 and heard on Sports 620 KTAR.
