Suns Charities to Host "Shot at Glory"
Phoenix Suns Charities is the title sponsor of this year's "Shot at Glory," hole-in-one challenge at the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Wednesday, February 1, at approximately 3:30 p.m. Phoenix Suns Charities "Shot at Glory," presented by Snell and Wilmer LLP Law Offices, will return to the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale following the completion of the FBR/Xerox Silver Pro-Am.
Phoenix Suns alumni Cedric Ceballos, Eddie Johnson and Mark West along with The Gorilla, Suns Dancers and Solar Squad will tip off the hole-in-one challenge with live entertainment and will encourage fans to cheer on the participants throughout the event.
Of the 25 golfers, four will be representing Phoenix Suns Charities, including one Suns season ticket holder who will be randomly selected.
If a hole-in-one is made, $1 million will be given away ($500,000 to the competitor, $500,000 to the charity of their choice) to the golfer on behalf of The Thunderbirds. If no one makes a hole-in-one, The Thunderbirds will donate $40,000 to the charity of the participant who is closest-to-the-pin, while $25,000 and $15,000 will be donated to the second and third place finishers, respectively. Each of the remaining participants' charities will receive $1,000.
A list of participants, which will include war heroes, celebrities and sponsors, will be released by the Waste Management Phoenix Open at a later date. One lucky spectator will also be randomly selected by tournament officials just prior to the event start time, and given the opportunity to compete in this year's "Shot at Glory."
Phoenix Suns Charities is the cornerstone of the team's foundation, making grants to non-profit organizations that serve children and youth in the areas of education, health and human services, the arts, sports and recreation, and rehabilitation. In the 24 years since its inception, Phoenix Suns Charities has donated over 11 million dollars to worthy Arizona organizations.
