Phoenix Police and Fire Departments to Compete in Second-Annual Southwest Airlines NBA All-Star Pro Tow for Charity

WHAT:
Members of the Phoenix Police Department will go head-to-head with the Phoenix Fire Department in the second-annual Southwest Airlines NBA All-Star Pro Tow. The competition will determine which group can pull the 80,000-pound, 110-foot long Southwest Airlines NBA branded 737 “Slam Dunk One” airplane, a distance of 50 yards in the fastest time. NBA Legend Darryl Dawkins will host the event while Jason Richardson and Nate Robinson will serve as honorary coaches during this special event at the Southwest Airlines Maintenance Facility at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Southwest Airlines, the Official Airline of the NBA, will use this special event to benefit two local Phoenix charities. The Phoenix Fire Dept. Team will represent the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and the Phoenix Police Dept. Team will pull on behalf of Pediatric Patients at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. Both team’s charities will be awarded donations for their respective organizations – the winning team’s charity will receive a donation of $15,000 and the other team’s charity will receive a donation of $10,000.

**Directions to parking/location of the event:

From the East: Enter from 143 or 202 to the Sky Harbor Airport entrance. Follow the signs and exit on the left to East Long term parking. At the stop sign at the top of the ramp turn left on 41st street. Follow the road around to the left, the hangar will be on the right hand side. Park in the parking lot to the east side of the hangar, it will be the second driveway entrance. From the West: Enter from I10 to the Sky Harbor Airport entrance. Follow signs and exit on the right to East Long term parking. This will be the exit right after terminal four. At the stop sign at the top of the ramp turn right on 42nd Street. Turn right on E. Sky Harbor Blvd and enter the first driveway on the left.
