PHOENIX – With an average of 158,628 households tuning in to catch Shaquille O’Neal’s debut with the Phoenix Suns, the local television broadcast of last night’s (Wednesday) Suns/Lakers game drew an average rating of 8.8 and a 12 share on FSN Arizona, marking an all-time high.
Last night’s rating surpasses the previous record for a Suns game on FSN Arizona (7.9 rating), which ironically was set when the Suns took on Shaq and his former team the Miami Heat on January 11, 2005. The Suns have been televised on FSN Arizona since the 2003-04 season.
Additionally, the combined rating (15.6) of the Suns/Lakers game on FSN Arizona and ESPN (6.8) was the highest rated program in Phoenix yesterday, including “American Idol” (12.9/19 share).
The Suns are set to host the Boston Celtics tomorrow (Friday) at US Airways Center. The game will be broadcast locally on FSN Arizona beginning at 8:30 PM.
