Tucson to Host Suns 2005 Training Camp

Posted: Aug. 17, 2005

The Phoenix Suns will open their 2005 Training Camp at the University of Arizona in Tucson. This marks the team’s first Tucson appearance since playing a preseason game on Oct. 15, 2000 at the McKale Center.

“We are very excited about the change of venue to Tucson. When a scheduling conflict arose that prompted the move, the University of Arizona stepped in and provided us a perfect backdrop for training camp.” Suns President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo said. “Tucson has always been an important market for us and we look forward to sharing the Suns experience with everyone there.”

The Phoenix Suns made Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff the team’s home for training camp 16 times over the past 19 seasons, but will move this year’s camp site to Tucson due to a scheduling conflict at NAU. The Suns first used Flagstaff as a training camp site in 1986 and have held training camp during the remaining years in Phoenix at Veterans Memorial Coliseum (2003) and America West Arena (1998, 1997).

After hosting media day at America West Arena on Oct. 3 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. on the AWA practice court, the Suns will then report to Tucson for training camp from October 4-10.

The training camp workout schedule begins at the McKale Center on Tuesday, October 4 and continues through Monday, October 10. Practices will be twice daily from Oct. 4-7 and single workouts on Oct. 8-10. The Suns will also hold a public scrimmage at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 8 at the McKale Center. The team will return to the Valley of the Sun on Monday, October 10 and resume practice twice daily at AWA on Tuesday, October 11 and Wednesday, October 12. Phoenix hosts the Los Angeles Clippers in their first home preseason game at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 15 at AWA.
