Suns Head Coach Lindsey Hunter

(Opening statement)
“Quite a lackluster effort the first half. I was not happy with none of our young guys. And it wasn’t about mistakes they made. It was about effort. It was about fight, having a sense of urgency. Unacceptable. This is unacceptable. That is part of the reason they sat and watched the second half because we are going to play guys that play the way we want to play and play the way we are going to play. Establish the type of culture that we are going to have. I told Marcus and Markieef if you are going to go out and not compete… forget making shots, forget bad passes and things like that. If you are not going to go out and compete and fight than hey you will watch the guys that will. The guys that went out the second half played the way that we are going to play and that is why they were out there.”

(On defending John Wall and team’s defense)
“I think he really tried to string us out. When a guy has that much speed he can really get places on the floor that you don’t see every guard do. He dribbled all the way to the corner and pick and rolled once. He is a tough cover. When he is making shots, fall aways and things like that it can be tough. I think the second half we got back in the game. They scored 15 in the third and 14 in the fourth. You could not play any better defense than that. You give up 34 in the second quarter and now you are fighting an uphill battle. I am just proud of the guys that played the second half. Shannon Brown came off the bench and did a great job for us. Jared is sick, he may have had food poisoning. Wes is sick with the stomach flu or something, but those guys gutted it out. That is the way we want to play. That is what we will stand for.”

Suns Forward Goran Dragic

(On the difference in the second half defense)
“Nothing. We still defend the same thing. We didn’t change nothing, we didn’t make something to improve the pick and roll defense. The coverages were the same, it’s just effort.”

Suns Forward Wesley Johnson

(On the difference from the Lakers game to this game)
“Really the rotations weren’t there. They knocked down shots. They played inside really good and the rotations weren’t really there. They were forcing down low and it’s tough for us – us being short handed with a couple big men. Gortat being down so Haddadi and Jermaine have to play those minutes and Scola has to do the same so it’s kind of tough.”

(On if it was surprising after Monday’s game to lose like this)
“I think so. I think the effort wasn’t there – like in the second quarter I think you saw we only scored 13 or 14 points leading into the third and fourth quarters so I think that second quarter was a big toll in the whole game.”

(On his hot shooting)
“It felt good. Teammates were looking for me so I tried to stay aggressive out there and tried to get my shot up and be confident in my shot.”

Wizards Head Coach Randy Wittman

(On tonight’s game)
“Defensively we won the game. Defensively we got back to the team we recognize; scrambling, challenging shots, rebounding the ball. You know this team really hurt us bad with offensive rebounds the first time we played them and I thought we did a better job there. They got 25 of their 79 points off of our turnovers; yeah we almost shot ourselves in the foot there. I’m proud of the guys. After coming off a game that we had down the stretch in Charlotte on the first game of this trip, to come out here and bounce back against a team we just played three days ago, whatever it was, it’s hard to come in and beat a team twice in a turnaround like that. I’m proud of our guys.”

Wizards Forward Nene

(On tonight’s game)
“In the first quarter we were a little lazy, a little slow on the weak side. In the second quarter we pushed the tempo. In the first half we had a 15 point advantage and in the second half we relaxed and they went on a run but we stepped it up in the last quarter. They played me well, they played physical and we tried to exploit the pick and roll and we succeeded on that.”

Wizards Guard John Wall

(On tonight’s game)
“In the first quarter we did a great job of getting pace we just turned the ball over too many times and we really didn’t get into a rhythm. So give credit to the second unit who came in in the second quarter and really boosted our play and got us up big. That’s s what we pride ourselves on. On any night someone can lead us in scoring because our team is so versatile but as long as we’re doing it defensively that’s what we take pride in and get a lot of steals and get into the open court. That’s when we boosted our lead and that’s what we’ve got to keep doing is watching our turnovers on the road and playing defense. When we play defense we feel we can beat anybody.

(On Fourth Quarter Close Out)
“Just some great play calling and seeing what was getting us some easy shots and just making shots. I mean that’s what it is on the road whenever you get into a close game and the team makes a run and the crowd gets into it, you’ve got to be able to make plays offensively and defensively and that’s what we were able to do.”
