Head Coach Lindsey Hunter

(Opening statement)

“Seventy four points in the paint, that sums up the entire game. They dominated us driving the ball. They are a good team and we did a good job staying close but they just tightened the screws and pulled away from us. We just have to learn from this and realize what level we have to get to. We have a ways to go to compete with guys like that, that’s the goal.”

(On defense; no Gortat, O’Neal)

“They do a good job of switching a lot of things trying to confuse you defensively. At that point you have to play basketball.” “We did some good things the first half. We challenged them a lot in the first half, but to do that for four quarters you have to be playing at a certain level. We aren’t there yet but I think we are working towards that and eventually we will get there.” “We have to play with what we have. One of our sayings is ‘no excuses’ so whoever is playing has to step up and play. That’s the way it is.”

(On pace of the game)

“They just got out in transition. Our turnovers lead to that and I think we didn’t do a good enough job of getting back [on defense]. I think that’s one of their strengths – getting out in transition. They got a lot a lot of easy buckets that pushed the lead up and we had to play catch-up from then on.”

(On the result)

“I think that the main thing was just the transition thing. I think that most of the time it was just a lot of interior passing that messed us up. We’ve been playing well as of late too. If we just scored transition points like we did early we’d still have been in the game.”

Hamed Haddadi

(On getting more playing time)

“I don’t want anybody to get injured so I was sad about [Gortat’s injury]. We got to be patient. I was in Memphis five years so any time they give me a chance I got to use it. I got to rebound. I got to run. I got to do something good for the team.”

(On the game)

“We battled with them. We just have to keep fighting. Keep fighting and keep playing hard.”

Head Coach George Karl

(On Kosta Koufas' performance)

“Kosta has a great understanding of how to get underneath a defense when the defense makes mistakes. He’s ready to get a pass and he hustles and gets hustle rebounds; he probably had 3 or 4 put backs tonight. He’s gaining confidence by doing the little things of playing basketball and I really enjoy it. I think he and JeVale give us two guys that can have big nights.”

“I think we’re understanding and being responsive. I think still get disappointed in our first half performances but we make second half adjustments and come out with the right attitude. We’re young in a lot of ways but we’re also very good in a lot of ways too.”

Kosta Koufos

(On career night)

“I think we ran more in the second half. Our guards did a great job of penetrating the lane and dishing off and we give them credit for that and that’s why we’re so good this year, because our guards are so fast and they can penetrate. We established ourselves in the second half and got the momentum in the fourth quarter. Thee guards did a great job, penetrating the lane. Everybody did really well tonight and the biggest thing is we won on the road and now we have another game coming up on Wednesday to shoot for.”

Corey Brewer

(On second half)

“We came out more aggressive in the second half and once we got our hands on defensively and made some plays, got some easy baskets and get to running, that’s our game. Once we get to running and getting into our groove we’re tough to beat. It’s all about playing defense. Once we get stop s and make them miss, we can run.”
