Suns Interim Head Coach Lindsey Hunter

On the game:
“We still have a long way to go. We did do a lot of good things tonight. Defensively I think we were a lot more aware in the second half then we were the first half. We still have to work on execution. Not being in those situations a lot of guys tend to react differently. We always talk about one day at a time, one practice at a time, one game at a time. That’s what we will do. We will continue to build our system, our foundation, and continue to get better.”

On the defense:
“That’s what we focus on. That is where we are going to hang our hats night- in and night- out. We don’t always shoot the ball well, but one thing we can control is how we defend and that is something that we really stress. Being disciplined on defense and in everything we do. We have a long way to go but there are signs that we are getting better at it.”

On Goran Dragic:
“He is really sick so we didn’t know what to expect from him tonight. He was really sluggish and not feeling well but he fought through it and he was great. Kendall Marshall stepped up big time tonight, (along with) Jermaine O’Neal, and (Marcin) Gortat. It was a great collective effort from everyone defensively. I think Markieff Morris was tremendous for us defensively tonight. That is really what it takes for us, doing it as a group and not just one individual.”

On the Grizzlies:
“I think these games are great for us to be in because we have to learn. We are a young group and throughout this change we have been through some type of adversity. This is just another one to teach us how to gel as a team. As long as we continue to put forth the efforts in our practices and all of the things that we are trying to incorporate, then we will be fine. We will continue to learn how to play in these games and how to win these games.”

On the importance of the three-point plays:
“I don’t know right now after the game, but right now, I feel awful. But it feels good when you win those kind of games.”

On the game:
“In the fourth quarter I was playing off the ball. I was playing more position two. Kendall [Marshall] was a one. They told me when I try to get the ball to try get to the middle of the paint and try to get some fouls. They were in the bonus, and I did a couple of times. I just got momentum. I was feeling great and scored some off some baskets.”

On the game: “I think we played really good today. We played better. I think we are going to win games. If we play this way, we are going to win games.” On Marcin Gortat:
“He played a good game. In the second half, Goran [Dragic] took over. I think we got a good effort. Jermaine [O’Neal] came in and was big the whole game. I think we had a good game overall.”

On the defensive effort:
“We need to play defense. If we are going to win games, we need to play defense. We got good players. We got talent, but we don’t have kind of talent that will let you get away with a bad defense. We need to play defense to win games. We know that, and we are trying to work on that. We are getting better at it.”

On the play out of the final timeout:
“We were trying to get a pick-and-roll. We just ran an out-of-bounds play to get the ball and come off and get a pick-and-roll. We threw back and Darrell (Arthur) got a wide open three. We were trying to get either a quick two or a three, whichever came first. We didn’t make the shot so that didn’t happen, but that comes and goes.”

On the game:
“The disappointing part is that they outscored us in the paint 52 to 40 and they got 11 offensive rebounds for 16 second chance points. Then we made some sloppy turnovers coming down the stretch, for no reason. We tried to execute one in-bounds play and J.B. (Jerryd Bayless) wasn’t looking at the ball because he thought it was going to go to Zach (Randolph), the ball hits him in the chest and they get the steal. We had another turnover by a backcourt violation. No reason, just hold the ball and get the ball to the right person and make the play. They (Suns) deserved to win. They executed well. They played well. They went big on us and we couldn’t go big. We didn’t have any big guys to put in the game. That was a big thing down the stretch. They went at Jermaine O’Neal and we didn’t have a big guy to play him because we didn’t have a big guy to put in the game.”

On tonight’s performance:
“We showed signs of a good team and we showed signs of just being not together. You have to take your hats off to those guys, they beat us. Obviously, Marc [Gasol] got in foul trouble, which pretty much hurt us a little bit. But you have to figure that we’re a work in progress. We have to keep working. It was a tough loss.”

On tonight’s game:
"It's a real frustrating loss. I feel like we should have won the game. We had the chance to win and we didn't get the win."
