Suns Head Coach Alvin Gentry
"First of all, I told the team I have to apologize. I have to do a better job of keeping my cool in that situation right there. A little frustrated I thought Goran got hit on the shot and obviously they didn’t call it. He thought I dissevered two technical fouls so that is the way it goes, but I have to do a better job of keeping my cool. That being said, it is probably the best team, no it is the best team we play really. They are deep. They have all the ingredients to be a championship team. They got a great leader in Chris Paul, a tremendous player in Blake Griffin, they are deep off the bench, very good defensively, very athletic. I don’t know a weakness that they have, really. They are a tremendous team. They played like it. 13 in a row. I don’t know what else needs to be said other than that this is a really really good team. What else? The separation came right before the half when I think it was 16 to 2. I think the score was 43-40 and they ran off on a 16-2 run. We have to try to do a better job of staving that off. And a lot of that came off our turnovers. We had some turnovers, but you just have to give them credit that is a great basketball team we played."
(On Clippers forcing turnovers)
"Well I mean they have athletic guys and they get after you. You get on the sideline and they do a great job of trapping you. They take away the initial passes back and they force you to try and make skip passes and they are athletic and can 4get to them. They just do a really good job with that. You know Marc Iavaroni does a lot of the defensive stuff and you have to give him credit because I tell you they do a great job with the schemes and the system that they got in. They do a real good job with it."
(On a setback after the 4 game winning streak)
"No, I mean I don’t judge a whole lot off this game here. Like I said I think we are playing the elite team in the league. You know so obviously their goals are a little bit different than ours. What I would like to see us do is be consistent in what we are doing."
Suns Guard Jared Dudley
(On the Clippers’ performance)
"Tonight they took it to us, no excuses. They were just the better team. Chris Paul was, defensively, a one man wrecking crew: he took us out of our whole offense that we wanted to get done. Offensively, we couldn’t stop them. They hit a lot of three’s. We tried to take away their down-low, Blake was doing a good job of that. Through our turnovers and bad offense that led to them getting easy points; that’s a team you really can’t afford that to. Then, we tried to stop their bench and Crawford had a lot of points. Everything they wanted to do, they did it and everything we tried to take away, we didn’t."
Suns Center Marcin Gortat
(On the how "chippy" the game was)
"It wasn’t really a basketball game. There was a lot of wrestling, a lot of fighting, and just basically was not the performance we wanted to give. I think at some point we stopped playing basketball, we stopped executing and doing stuff that we are supposed to do. We started wrestling and started worrying about referees and started complaining more and not worrying about basketball. We can’t get discouraged, at some point we lost our composure and we just have to stay strong – physically and mentally."
Clippers Head Coach Vinny Del Negro
(On Tonight’s Game)
"We did a better job. We didn’t like the way we played in the fourth but we got a little sloppy with the ball but overall I thought our starters did a good job in the first quarter and then in the second quarter we jumped on them and we needed to win the third quarter and take control of the game and we missed a lot of free throws but I thought our defensive rotations were good tonight. We dis as better job closing out to their three which they can be very effective with. Overall just a nice team effort. Got a nice performance from Blake and Chris and Jamal but it was a total team effort as always and on the defensive end we got some easy ones when we needed to and then we were just trying to control tempo down the stretch."
Clippers Guard Chris Paul
(On Tonight’s Game)
"It was our defense. Right there towards the end of the half I think we were up six and then I looked up and we were up 15. We got some timely steals. I think Blake set his career high tonight in steals. There was one that he got at half court right before halftime that was very timely that sort of gave us the momentum".
"Matt Barnes hit a lot of timely threes and that’s what me and Chauncey were talking about on the bench. Every time they made a 4 or a 6-0 run matt would hit one just to keep us steady. We’re just trying to be as consistent as possible. It’s a long season and a lot of season left and you never know what’s going to happen but I think right now we’re playing hard and we’re playing together ."
Clippers Forward Blake Griffin
(On Tonight’s Game)
"We came out a little bit sloppy and defensively gave up too many easy ones. Somewhere in the second quarter we kind of buckled down a little bit and somewhere in the third quarter we came out and really did a much better job."
"I wouldn’t say there are bad feelings between the teams. I think every time we take the court we have a chip on our shoulder and we know that teams are coming for us. So that’s how it’s going to be and we welcome that."
"We’re just taking care of business right now. To be honest, we’re not really concerned with, ‘you haven’t won here since then’ or ‘you haven’t won this many games in a row,’ we hear it all but we’re about just getting these wins and if they come within a streak or when we haven’t won somewhere, that’s fine. It’s more about the way we play and how we execute."
