Head Coach Alvin Gentry

(On the Bad Start)

“Just another bad start. We keep digging ourselves holes and then try to dig our way out of it, and you can’t do that, especially on the road. I don’t think we did a very good job of executing and we didn’t shoot the ball well at all. When the game was on the line we stopped them eight out of 10 times and we got one basket in the process. You can’t win playing that way; we have to do a better job of executing and finishing plays.”

(On the Energy Level)

“I don’t think we were flat, you have to get the ball in the basket number one. Our defense was pretty good. Like I said during that one stretch, eight out of 10 stops and we didn’t make up any ground because we didn’t get the ball in the basket on the other end.”

Luis Scola

(On Avoiding Inconsistency)

“It’s very difficult. You give up one quarter or lose focus one quarter or two quarters, sometimes three quarters. We were down 26 last night and ended up winning, but how many times can you do that? We need to be more solid and play 48 minutes. If we play 48 minutes, we’ll be okay.”

Jared Dudley

(On Nearly Coming Back)

"We finally started getting stops. They were pounding us down low, getting a lot of rebounds. We turned the pressure up a little bit. Usually when you get down a lot, teams dig a little deeper. We did that. We got steals, got out and had easy layups. Anytime we settled for jump shots, they made us pay for it.”

Head Coach Tyrone Corbin

(On the End of the Game)

“I thought we stopped moving the ball. We got it down and we just kind of thought the game was going to be over. We didn’t move the ball move our bodies for that stretch there. There is a lot of time left in the game, six to eight minutes, and it’s only a 12-13 point game that’s a lot of time we fell into a trap a little bit. They kept feeling the pressure, trying to make shots, trying to speed the game up. And we just got in a lull there but fortunately we got the guys back in and were able to pull it off.

(On Jamaal Tinsley)

“I thought he was great. It’s difficult and people don’t understand how when somebody goes down and you actually start and play the minutes they actually play tonight. I thought he got a little tired at the end and made some errant plays but I thought for the most part in the game he got us into the stuff we needed to get into. I just respect his professionalism."

Al Jefferson

(On the Fourth Quarter)

"Against a team like Phoenix, if you turn the ball over, they make you pay for it. If you take bad shots, they make you pay for it. That’s what they did, that’s what we did in the fourth quarter. We got back to what we were doing to get the lead. We’ve got to learn how to play hard like that for 48 minutes.”

Gordon Hayward

(On the Win)

“We got off to the start we wanted to. We were controlling the pace of the game and getting good shots. In the fourth quarter we went back to the way we played last night. That’s something we’ve got to work on. We’ve got to stay poised and not turn the ball over, so there’s definitely room for improvement.”
