|Head Coach Alvin Gentry|
(On the Loss)
"I thought we played with great energy and great effort. We put ourselves in the position to defeat a really good team on the road, record-wise the best team in the NBA. We just didn’t quite get it done. We missed some crucial free throws and they came up with some offensive rebounds. You can see why they’re a great team."
(On the Grizzlies)
"That team is really good. I’m telling you. There is no reason why they won’t be in the mix long into May and June. They’ve got everything. I think Michael (Conley) has done a great job. His leadership and the way he runs the team have really made a huge jump from last year. Zach (Randolph) is Zach. He has always been a good player. If you go back and look, he has always been 20-10 since he walked into the league."
(On Nearly Getting the Win)
"When [Luis] Scola got that steal on [Mike] Conley, I thought we were going to win that game. Obviously, we played to win that game, but that is what happens when a young team doesn’t know how to win. Sometimes they find different ways to lose. I thought tonight was a good opportunity to come in here for a team that is really struggling to play a team that is playing really, really well and get some momentum to get a win."
(On How the Momentum Changed)
"We played good for three quarters. Quite honestly, something just suddenly turned off. Someone turned off the switch, and we just stopped playing. That’s it."
|Head Coach Lionel Hollins|
(On the Nature of this Game)
"Every win is a grit and grind win. It’s tough to win in this league and I have to commend the Phoenix Suns and Alvin Gentry and the job that they did having been on the road for six or seven games. To come in and play that way on the last game of the road trip is a testament to how well he’s keeping them together."
(On Zach Randolph)
"A lot of teams have been double teaming Zach and sending three or four guys at him. His numbers have been down but tonight he got a lot of one-on-one and he was able to operate. Our spacing was really good which allowed him to drive and do some stuff and really clean up the glass for us. All season long, Zach has been terrific."
(On His Performance)
"It felt good. It’s the first game of the season that I’ve felt best on the offensive end. Shots were going and I think I’ve been missing a lot of easy shots, but tonight it felt good. It felt good knowing I could play this way and feel like my old self tonight. I’ve been doing a lot of stuff on the offensive end, making my shots and hitting my little jump shot. I felt good tonight."
(On the Second Half)
"Mike (Conley) got more aggressive. Mike got into a lane, finally, and moved the ball better. It wasn’t just wanting to pass a shot; it was wanting more than two (points). We played one side to the other and good things happened."
