Suns Head Coach Alvin Gentry

Tonight’s win

“It was a great win for us because obviously we didn’t have our two best players on the floor, and we didn’t have the guy who is the engine to our whole team. It was satisfying for the guys in the locker room because I think they wanted to prove that we are a good team all around, and that we can win games without Steve [Nash] or Grant [Hill].”

On climbing the standings

“The losses at home kind of put us behind the eight ball. With tonight’s win we beat a real quality team, they are going to be in the playoffs obviously and they are going to be a tough out. Our guys just did a really good job hanging around, he got down 10 then 15 and then 17 and then we cut it to eight and we stayed in there long enough to put together a run and get the score close enough to where it mattered.”

Tonight’s bench play

“Our bench came through and did a really great job for us tonight and not only them Shannon Brown had a great game tonight as well. But the bench came in and did a great job for us, Ronnie Price did a great job for us, Markief [Morris] made a big three for us and Robin [Lopez] had a couple of post ups that were really important. It was one of those wins where at the night you say this was a really good team win.”

Winning tonight without Steve Nash or Grant Hill

“The biggest thing for us was, we played zone and they struggle against a zone. I am quite sure they will have to work on it for the next couple of days. We played great defense and we had some big rebounds, and we executed well down the stretch.”

On making the playoffs

“Our goal is to make the playoffs and obviously this was a huge win for us. This builds chemistry for us as a team and we just have to get more wins.”

Suns Guard Sebastian Telfair

Tonight’s win

“This win was really satisfying for us. This is the kind of game we were losing earlier in the season. This is the kind of game that is going to get us over the hump. Our goal is to make the playoffs and if we keep getting games like this we can succeed in reaching our goal.”

The Suns attitude and aggression tonight

“We brought it tonight. We came out and needed a win. Our veterans needed some rest and it was still a big game. We focused in an got a win, we did whatever it took to get this win.

Overall thoughts on tonight’s game

“Obviously I’m not pleased with the effort. From start to finish, I didn’t think our energy was very good. We had opportunities to take control of the game, but we didn’t. They made a run in the fourth quarter on us and we didn’t respond very well. On defense, we didn’t get their three-point shooters. I just thought they outworked us.”

Team dynamic

“We’re playing too much as individuals instead of as a team. You can’t win like that. We let one play infect another. Our approach at times with the referees and letting one play affect another play, we compiled our mistakes consistently. It makes it hard.”

Moving forward

“You have to find ways to work through it and it’s tough. It’s a daily grind and we haven’t handled it well lately.”

Suns playing without Steve Nash and Grant Hill

“Our track record when the other team’s players don’t play is not very good. You should not worry about how the other team does, you should focus on what you can do as an individual and as a team. It is something we have to work through. We’ve let some games slip away now and this is one of them.”
