Suns Head Coach Alvin Gentry

On the game:

“First of all, I think that Grant (Hill) did a great job on Durant. He only went 10 for 27, and really we did a good job on Westbrook. A guy that really turned the game around, I thought, was Harden. He goes 8-for-12, but he goes 4-for-7 from threes…That was where the game was lost. We probably could have weathered the 30 points from Durant, but we can’t do 30 from another guy. I thought the shot that changed the whole game was his (Harden) three pointer, where we missed an assignment and he ends up shooting a wide open three. I will say that I thought we played hard and we competed like crazy and that team (Thunder) is a great team. You have to play 48 minutes to beat them and they made some shots in the fourth quarter that we wanted them to make outside shots and they made some challenged, which that’s the type of team they are; they’re a very good basketball team and in order to beat them, you have to be pretty much perfect. I thought we played great for the first three quarters, then we struggled offensively in the fourth and then they made some shots in the fourth.”

On the play of Steve Nash in the first half versus the second half:

“I don’t think they (Thunder) did anything differently on Nash. One of the things is that he still made great plays and we got to the foul line and, you know, you don’t get an assist for that, but I thought he still made some great passes to Marcin and got him to the basket and got him to the foul line. I’m just a little disappointed because we had a great opportunity. You got to be able to do it for forty-eight minutes.

On the Thunder offence:

“We played extremely hard and I thought we fought like crazy, but they got two All-Star guys that stepped up and they’ve got a guy coming off the bench that is most likely going to be the Sixth Man of the Year. Those three guys had ninety-one points between them and you throw in eighteen points from (Serge) Ibaka and that was pretty much all of their points.”

Suns Forward Grant Hill

On tonight’s effort:

“It is a good measuring stick. They are a good team, the best team in the West. We came out and played well. We had the lead heading into halftime. They came out in the second half and made some adjustments and attacked our zone. The big three for them played well.”

Suns Center Marcin Gortat

On tonight’s game:

“We started really strong and I think we jumped hard on them from the first minute. We had some great defensive possessions on Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Unfortunately we lost our focus in the second half and actually this game was the other way around for us. We usually play better in the second half.”

On his rhythm with Steve Nash tonight:

“We always have a good rhythm with Steve. If you cannot find a rhythm with Steve then you shouldn’t play in the league. Obviously he’s a great player and a legend in this league. I just tried to be aggressive and attack the basket as hard as possible. They have a great shot-blocker (Serge Ibaka), and if you do not take the ball hard to the rim he is going to block it.”

Scott Brooks

Opening statement:

“That was another great win for us coming back from behind. That fourth quarter defense was another great performance. Defensively, we really got after the basketball. Steve Nash had 13 assists at halftime and he ended up with 13, but we wanted to do a better job defending him and we did that by controlling the basketball and making their decisions a little tougher. I thought Serge (Ibaka) was a big part. We are a good team. Serge came through and had a big night rebounding and scoring around the basket. James (Harden), Kevin (Durant) and Russell (Westbrook) scored the basketball for us.”

On Royal Ivey:

“Everything changed when Royal got in the game. We were down a big number. It’s amazing that he has 17 minutes, doesn’t even score, doesn’t get an assist, doesn’t get a rebound, but he had a big impact on the basketball game. It’s his toughness, his grit, he’s diving on the floor, he’s chasing their shooters off. We had trouble guarding the guys in the first half. Guys were coming off open screens that they weren’t even really getting screens, but Royal doesn’t allow himself to get screened. You have a choice every time. Defensively, it’s to either get screened or don’t get screened, and he makes the right choice by not getting screened. I thought he was a big part of our win, but you look at his stat line and it shows nothing.”

On the Phoenix Suns:

“Phoenix is a tough team to match up against. They have one of the best point guards—he’s clever, he’s crafty and he’s still very good at the stage of his career. They have shooters all over the floor. Gortat (Marcin Gortat) was rolling to the basket hard. We had some great performances and everybody chipped in. Defensively, we held them to a number that is respectable.”

Kevin Durant

On the emotional win tonight:

“It was big. They came out and jumped on us. I think going on 16 with a couple minutes left in the third. We kind of turned it up a little bit on the defensive end. We made shots going into the fourth (quarter). We got some momentum. It was a big comeback win for us.”

On game-changing defense in second half:

We were getting stops, blocks and shots. Guys were rebounding. We got some transition baskets and we were able to get a good win against a really good team.”

On Serge Ibaka’s game play tonight:

“He’s one of the most athletic guys in the league. He has long arms, and he can rebound the ball and block shots. It’s nothing new to me. I know he’s capable of doing it every night and I know it’s just a matter of him doing it. We don’t have to worry about Serge. He’s going to bring it every night.”

Russell Westbrook

On resiliency throughout the game:

“We dug ourselves a hole and we did a great job of fighting back defensively in the second half. We did a better job on that in the last couple of games.”

On Nash not having assists in the second half:

“It was just us picking up the defense. We kind of let them do what they wanted to do in the first half and then we tried to put a little pressure on them in the second.”

On Serge Ibaka’s game play

“Serge does a great job of getting us extra possessions, securing rebounds and closing the games out. He’s been doing that all year.”
