Head Coach Alvin Gentry

"I thought Channing (Frye) shot the ball well, and when he does that, we’re pretty good. I also thought we got good effort from our second unit. They were the ones who got the separation (increasing the scoring margin) for us, and I kind of wanted them to finish the game, but they hit a couple of threes (and I was forced to bring the guys back in).

"It was a total team win, and I thought there were some guys who played real well. Josh Childress’ stats made not stand out, but I thought he and Grant (Hill) did a good job on Joe Smith...Joe Smith, geez, I mean Joe Johnson. He did a real good job on Joe Smith (laughs), he didn’t score.

"They did a good job making him work and running him off shots (Joe). For Johnson to play 33 minutes and get 13 shots, that was pretty good on our part. That was a real good win against a real quality team. (about Steve Nash back into the game) - "When they made that last three, I was real comfortable with putting him back into the game.

(good time to get the Hawks?) - "For whatever reason, they are struggling a bit, but they are a real good team. I think every team goes through ups and downs, and it’s not unlike what others have gone through - like Miami, Oklahoma City and the Lakers. When the schedule’s the way it is, it’s real difficult to be up and ready to go every night."

Channing Frye

"Starting to play better, and we’re starting to find our rhythm and we just have to continue to play Suns basketball...and that getting out running and being unselfish.

"I think we’re trying to start the game at our pace and we’re attacking and being aggressive and taking advantage of whatever mismatches we can find.

"Steve Nash never plays like his age, and he’s always getting involved."

Hawks Head Coach Larry Drew

"We didn’t respond well to the runs, particularly in that second quarter. They made a run. I just don’t see how we respond as if the game is over. I was hoping we were past that point, and it’s a point we’re going to have to get better at. This is the NBA. It’s about runs. Teams make runs all the time. We’ve been in a situation where we’ve made runs on teams, and they’ve fought back. It just seems to let the wind out of our sails when a team makes a run against us, particularly when there’s a lot of basketball to be played. It happened in the third quarter as well. We just have to get better at that."

(On Nash’s three-pointer at halftime buzzer): "He hit a tough shot. Defensively, after we scored and they got it out, we didn’t stop the ball. He got it, got it across half court, and got a good look at it. You have to defend until that horn goes off, and we didn’t do that. He got a good look at it, and knocked it down."

"I have to give a lot of credit to the Suns. They came out and played a balance floor game. Our defense has to get better. No excuses to not come out and put forth a better effort than we did tonight. Steve Nash kind of took us apart. That’s what he does. We knew he’s a tough player. We tried to make it tough on those guys, but we just didn’t do enough. We didn’t play with enough sense of urgency, and that cost us the game."

"They’re a team that spreads you out. If you make any mistakes, they capitalize on them either with guys diving to the basket off pick and rolls, or they space it out with shooters and knock down three’s. it’s more about us than it is them. We’re going through a tough stretch right now. No need to hang our heads now. We have to regroup and get back to the drawing board, and doing the type of things we’re capable of to win games. Tonight wasn’t indicative of how good we can be."

"Like I’ve been saying, the continuity of our offense and out inability to stop dribble penetration has been a thorn in our side. If we correct those two things, nothing can stop us. You saw on those road games we had high assist totals. These last two or three games, it’s been low and the offense has been real stagnant."
