Head Coach Alvin Gentry

(Opening statement)

“It’s important for us—you know, really for the fans to let them know. We’ve kind of had the fans on the emotional roller coaster this year—where we played well and then we struggled, then we played well. We just thought it was really important for us as a collective unit—you know coaches, players, everyone—to let the fans know that we were going to give it our all regardless. There’s been games where we hadn’t played well but we played extremely hard. Tonight we put it all together against a really good team.”

(On Steve Nash)

“Since he’s stepped foot on the floor, he’s been the face of our franchise. He’s had a lot of success here. We haven’t won a championship, but there’s been some pretty good players in the NBA that haven’t won championships. I don’t think that anyone’s legacy can be based on the fact that they didn’t win the championship. Then you get into the situation where it’s Karl Malone, John Stockton, Charles Barkley—and all of those guys are great players and got an unbelievable legacy and it just was unfortunate that they didn’t win the championship. Steve, he’s not defined by that. He’s not going to go chasing a championship. I think he loves being here, and we love having him on our team, and he loves playing here. I think when he retires here, he will be a Phoenix Sun.”

Steve Nash

(On the win)

“Obviously it was great to get a win. It’s been a long year so to finish it off with a couple of victories was good. I think it was important for us too for our psyche. It’s a good feeling amidst a lot of disappointment.”

(On playing in Phoenix)

“This is my team. I feel like this is my home, as a basketball player and I want to try and get back to the playoffs with this team; try and build this team into a contender again. It’s pretty simple. And there’s no guarantee; you can’t just go out and say can you trade me to this team, so it’s very abstract to think about what the alternative is but that’s beside the point, I want to be a part of this team and I want to try to take us back to the playoffs with these guys and hopefully be better next year.”

Marcin Gortat

(On the game)

“It’s just great to beat one of the best teams in the NBA right now and it’s just a good feeling to end up the season with a win and, just like coach said, it looks better (to have) 40 wins than 39. That’s the positive thing about winning this game.”

Gregg Popovich

(On Tonight’s Game)

“We would have loved to have won and given Manu and Tony and Timmy minutes so they could get a good run tonight. Tony’s been under the weather and he got 25 minutes tonight so I thought that was good for him and we got Timmy, I think, about 30 so that was good. They needed to get a good run and they did so they could keep a rhythm. You know, you like to win but we didn’t and that’s how it goes. Now the fun starts.”

Tony Parker

(On Tonight’s Game)

“They just won the game. They made shots and made big plays down the end. I was a little bit5 sick, my chest was burning. I played 25 minutes and tried to get it out. By this weekend, I’ll be fine.”

(On Manu’s Injury)

“Not a good time, but that’s basketball, it happens. That’s part of the season. You’ll have ups and downs and we had a lot of ups the whole season and pretty much injury free the whole season and now at the end we have ac couple of things, but that’s part of basketball.”

Tim Duncan

(On Tonight’s Game)

“Obviously you want to win but it was a great game in that it was high intensity and a playoff type. They played hard, they played well and they played better than us obviously. They jumped out on us early but it was good to play in a situation where there was pressure and we had to play hard.

We didn’t start the game well. Obviously losing him (Manu) hurts in any game and hopefully it’s something minor and he’s able to start in the playoffs. We fought back and I thought our guys responded really well and played all the way through for the last three quarters.”
