Alvin Gentry

(Opening statement)

“I thought we played great. I knew that they would obviously be a lot more stable playing in this game. (Al) Jefferson really gave them a good lift at the start of the game. Overall, I thought we did okay. The thing that bothered me most is that we just turned the ball over so many times. I didn’t think we had great focus at the first half and we ended up turning the ball over 14, 15 times or something (14 turnovers)—came back the second half and only had five turnovers (three turnovers). We have to get our focus a little bit better in what we’re doing. But I did think that we played extremely hard and competed like crazy.”

(On tonight’s key players)

“We always have somebody that kind of steps up for us. Tonight it was—I thought (Mickael) Pietrus made some huge plays: rebounds, blocked shots, things like that. He was really good there. I thought Channing (Frye) got us off to a great start. I got to introduce our guys to the guy that’s making shots. He’s (Frye)making shots and we cant seem to get him the ball in the first half after he made his first five. I guess I got to do the playground thing and tell them when the guy is hot we need to try and find him. I thought Channing shot the ball extremely well and also did a good job defensively.”

(On Grant Hill’s defense)

“I can’t say enough about the job that Grant (Hill) did on Deron Williams. When you are able to play him the way Grant did and cause him—you know, he ends up with six turnovers, I think three of them were carrying the ball. I can’t say enough about Grant and I don’t think he gets the credit. I still say that if anyone should be on the all-defensive team, it should be him.”

Channing Frye

“I think for us I was just staying focused and trying to figure out ways to get open and if I wasn’t open then finding someone else open for a layup. Igor [Kokoskov] challenged me to go out there and make some shots. So, I just went out there and shot and had confidence in my shooting. My teammates kept putting me in situations to succeed.”

Mickael Pietrus

(On the team’s defense) “We just needed to keep playing hard. We knew they were going to come out hard, so we had to play good defense. I think our defense did great tonight and that’s why we have been winning games the past couple of weeks, playing defense. We are one of the best team defenses in the NBA over the last 15 games. We really want to make sure that we keep it up and get the eight spot.”

Jazz Head Coach Tyrone Corbin

(On the game)

“I’m not questioning effort. The guys, being shorthanded especially, the guys really played hard; gave ourselves a chance to win the game. Like I said, we had some good looks, we missed some shots down the stretch there; we had that little run in the third quarter, we fell off a little bit, but we fought back and that’s a good sign for us. A game I felt we should have won though.”

(On progress from last game)

“The thing is our effort is there. We played a lot better, a lot longer than we did the other night. The guys will continue work on the things we’ve been working on in practice last couple days and we are going to turn the corner. As long as we continue to fight and bring the effort, we’ll make shots and we’ll get some wins.”

CJ Miles

(On playing shorthanded)

“We knew we were going to have to do it. We had two of our wing guys that play 30-plus minutes out of the game, so we had to find ways to get guys to play. We played hard, guys did a good job stepping in and filling those positions, Jeremy (Evans) gave us good minutes when he got a chance and Paul (Millsap) played some small forward a little bit. They just got hot, they made some shots.”

(On the game)

“You can see it from last game to this game. Just settling down and being able to see the game the way it’s flowing and making the right plays with each other. And defensively, just really showing effort and just getting after it, which is why we were able to stay in that game. The way they shot the ball and the way we shot for a while, there was no way we shouldn’t have been in that game.

Paul Millsap

(On the game)

“It is disappointing. We felt like we got out and we played hard. We played hard. They hit some big shots and Channing Frye had a career night tonight, but other than that we felt like we played pretty good.”
