Head Coach Alvin Gentry

(Opening statement)
“Obviously it was a much needed win for us. I thought we did a good job of competing and playing hard. I thought our defense was really good.”

(On keeping composure)
“I knew it would be a real physical game, but the thing that I thought is that, for the most part, we kept our composure and just tried to concentrate on playing.”

(On controlling the pace of the game)
“We’re not a bump and grind it out team and I said that right from the start. The only thing we wanted to do was keep the pace of the game and I thought they did a good job of that.”

(On what the win means)
“It means a lot to us. That’s how we have to play every night. We fought to get that win tonight and I think everybody came out to play and that’s what we have to do.”

(On his playing time)
“I'm a vet. I’ve been here in the NBA nine years; I know sometimes you’re not going to play, but you have to take it the right way. Whenever they call your name, make sure you show everybody else what you can bring to help the team. I just wait for my time and keep practicing, and try to get better.”

Vince Carter

(On the team’s aggressive play)
“They’re an aggressive team, and you have to match their aggressiveness. They play with a lot of fight and playing against them, you know what level you have to play at and we were able to really match it and really just show we’re very capable of playing at their level and it’s a big win for us in many aspects.”

(On what the win means)
“It’s great for our confidence and at the same time, it just lets us know that we’re very capable of playing at a high level. This team is capable of being in the playoffs and this was a test for us tonight and I’m just glad we were able to match it and able to pull out the win.”

Celtics Head Coach Doc Rivers

(On Tonight’s Game)
“We were sloppy. I thought the Suns played hard. We didn’t play well. We kind of got away from our game plan. It was one of those nights.

(On Ejection)
“I’m not sure. I didn’t earn it. So I think you’ll have to ask Mr. Javie. He actually came into our huddle. We were standing there and he came up to us. I’ll tell you exactly what was said. He said ‘You guys are complaining way too much’ and I said, ‘Then make the right calls.’ His answer back was, ‘I’ll make a call for you.’ That’s how I got the tech. After I got the tech I didn’t have any choice words for him. I didn’t say a word. You know what I said? I said, ‘It’s about the game, it’s not about one individual.’ That’s all I said, over and over again.”

Paul Pierce

(On Tonight’s Game)
“It’s tough. We’re coming off a back to back and it’s important for us to get off to a good start. I thought they really killed us tonight at the start of the game. They were able to jump out to a lead and we weren’t able to recover from there. I take my hat off to them. We don’t make excuses as a team. I thought we kind of lost our composure a little bit when we tried to get back into the game. Shots weren’t really falling for us tonight. I don’t’ know if that’s due to fatigue or what. They did a very good job defensively limiting our opportunities.”

Ray Allen

(On Tonight’s Game) “We didn’t really get into a good rhythm early. I thought defensively we were porous starting the game off. They kind of got to their spots and they got a great rhythm early. Offensively, we didn’t play with the extra pass tonight. We didn’t get easy shots, we didn’t’ get open shots. Then we turned the ball over and put them in transition,”
