Suns Head Coach Alvin Gentry

“I thought we did a great of job competing, especially in the last quarter and (in) overtime. We just got to continue and get better in all phases of the game. You know, the positive tonight was that at the start, we dug in and just found a way to win the game.”

(On making mistakes)
“We’re going to make some mistakes, but you’ve got to be going 100 percent. We can’t make mistakes at 70 or 75 percent. At 100 percent, I can live with it. I mean obviously we’ll look at it and talk about it. We just have to play like a desperate team—we are a desperate team.”

(On the team’s identity)
“We can talk defense all we want, but you got to put the ball in the basket—you got to score points. We hadn’t done that lately—we’ve been at 91, 87, 93, 95 (points). That’s not who we are. So we can’t lose our identity. You know with this whole defensive thing that’s going through everybody’s mind, we still have to be an offensive team. That’s who we are. We’ve still got to push the ball and find a way to score. Then, we do have to get better defensively, but not at the cost of losing our identity as to who we are. We are a good offensive team and we have to think that way.

“Well it’s important. It’s the type of game, especially after last night that we needed to find a way to win and that’s exactly what we did. We didn’t play great, we showed a lot of toughness, and coach (Alvin Gentry) just implored us to compete and I thought we were competing, but not playing great and then I think we took a stand and that’s all coach wanted. Whether we won or loss, in the end we fought for it and it was a good win.”

“I felt like we came back, regardless of the schedule, it’s still NBA players and we needed wins and for us it’s just overcoming obstacles and continue to trust and believe and we did that. I felt like in the fourth quarter, that was some of the best defense we’ve played in a long time and, for us, it’s just about how much do we want to leave on the floor and I felt like we’ve been a little bit here, a little bit there, but tonight I felt like it was there most of the game.”

Nets Head Coach Avery Johnson

“I think we settled for too many jump shots at that point in time. Hey made a run. They’re known for their offensive fire power and they got a couple of easy threes and they got the momentum and they made a good comeback on us. They went small ball and they were able to get some mismatches. We switched on Nash a lot and they were able to take advantage of the big guys and giving them good shots at the basket.”

“We just wanted to protect it (the lead) and they got hot and obviously basketball is a game of runs and they made theirs. We definitely fought for the most part. We just couldn’t pull it out. Our guys played hard the whole game and we definitely gave ourselves a shot but we just fell short and that’s how we have to play every game.”
