Suns Head Coach Alvin Gentry

“We made shots and they didn’t in the first quarter. Second quarter and through out they drove the ball to the basket any time they wanted to. We gave up 82 points in the middle two quarters. They scored 87 the night before in four quarters. We have to be able to score and be better offensively or we have to be able to guard better defensively. They played well and we didn’t, that is the bottom line. I have been concerned for a long time. You give up 130 points, after you give up 20 in the first quarter. You dig yourself back out of it. You either grab yourself by your boot straps and you pull yourself out by competing like crazy or you don’t. Those are the only two options that you have. There is not anything else out there, you either compete, you find a way to make things better, or you have a pity party for yourself and that is it. I would hope that we have enough character on this team that we will find a way to pull ourselves up and compete and find a way to right this ship some kind of way. It is not going to come from anybody but us.”

“We gave up an opportunity to stay on top of them. It seems like when we lost the momentum it was all down hill from there.

(On seeming defeatist)
A little bit. It seemed like we stopped believing, but we play tomorrow night. We have to come out and feel good about ourselves again.

(On digging out of a hole)
It’s a challenge, but we are all professional basketball players. We just try to get better everyday.

(On Coach saying time for talk is over)
We can talk all day long, but it doesn’t change anything if you don’t play hard and play well. I think there are times where we just didn’t play competitively. (Being fractured as a team) I wouldn’t say fractured as if there were people on the team going against each other, but there is a lack of cohesion and chemistry. I don’t think that we are at a performance or effort that we are accustomed to.”

"We were a dead team in the second unit when Arron came in and got energy going in a good direction. He played basketball. It wasn’t anything we did other than play harder and kind of got the spirit of the game in the right direction. Arron was great; I thought Ty was very good at that time. In the second half the starters came out and played great. I wasn’t expecting this easy of a win, but I am glad it came. It was good for us. Now we get to think of a big game on Thursday. (Surprising second quarter) Phoenix is the type of team that if you space an attack and move the ball, you are going to score points. We were settling for jump shots in the first unit. We threw some turnovers in there and again our confidence is a little fragile in that area. That showed in the first quarter. Once we got confidence going, we came out and we played great. Ty was pretty special. I think the one thing people don’t understand is in the three losses Ty was not healthy in any of those games. He hurt his knee in the LA game in the first half, he wasn’t healthy in Sacramento and of course he didn’t play against New Orleans. We need the personality change we have when we put him in the game. I think that showed tonight. He was as aggressive defensively as I have seen him. He picked the ball up and picked up the challenge of leading the team with effort and energy.”

Nuggets foward Carmelo Anthony

"It was good to get back on the right track, the winning track. It feels good to win a game, especially dropping three and the way that we lost those three. Tonight to come back and get a victory against the Phoenix Suns the way we did felt really good.

(On momentum building win)
Of course, we always want to take care of home court. Miami is going to be a tough game for us, a challenging game. So, it is another game on the schedule for us that we are going to come out, compete and try to win that game.

(On Miami on Thursday)
I think everyone else gets excited for it. For me, of course I know they are one of the better teams in the NBA. They have the big three and they love any and all types of matchups. For me to not get any sleep the night before, just be up all night just for that game, it is just another game for me on the schedule.

(On importance of bounce back game)
What I did the other night was personal; I made my own personal choice to do that. I didn’t go out there and try to have a bad game. I went out there, like I told you the other night, I took that game personal. After the game I told you that game was my fault and none of my teammates should have held their heads down for that. I was selfish and unselfish at the same time. Tonight I just wanted to come out, be aggressive and just bounce back from there.”

Nuggets forward JR Smith

"I think we just went out there and tried to have as much fun as possible. Instead of focusing on trade talk and rumors, as long as you come out here and play like you are supposed to play, have fun and don’t worry about what is going on off the court just on the court we will be fine. (Coming together tonight) I think once we realized we started making the extra pass early, it was contagious through out the rest of the game. Guys started rotating earlier on defense, started drifting on Nash, that really helped by visually saying it everyone starts to do it. (Fun tonight) It is the first time in a while we actually went out there and everybody enjoyed themselves. Everybody played up to their potential.”
