Head Coach Alvin Gentry

“Every win is a good win. You know, they’re a big team. We still have to do a better job of rebounding the basketball. To me that’s coming in (and rebounding) every night. That’s really our Achilles heel. I thought defensively we (are) keeping the stat down on first possessions, and you know we do a great job on all first possessions. But then they shoot it up, and get it back, and shoot it up and get it back—its hard to defend. You’re not going to stop a team if you have to defend them two, three or four times. In some kind of way we have to get better in that department. ”

(On Rebounding) “The one thing is, is that we’re working extremely hard. We’re trying to get better at rebounding—we just have to find a way to do it. I mean there’s no secret formula, we’re just going to have to find a way to just man up and find a way to come up with some rebounds.”

(On needing a win) “We talked about the importance of winning this game—we really needed to win this game. We hadn’t really done that in a few years—you know, talk about winning. We talk about playing well and doing what we are supposed to do, but we really needed to win this game tonight, you know, just for our own psyche. “

(On the team’s defense and rebounding) “We got to rebound. We did everything we were supposed to do on the defensive end besides that aspect of it. We played great team defense, we held them to 40 percent but, we just got to find a way to rebound the ball, that’s the only thing we have to do better.”

(On Steve Nash’s play) “It’s incredible. It shows why he is still a top 5 point guard in this league; he goes out there and he just plays hard, he can score and he also had 14 or 15 assists and he can even rebound, with seven rebounds. So he did a great job for us tonight.”

(On playing with Steve Nash) “It’s like having that big brother out there just making everything easy for you and all you have to do is just go out there and finish. And he takes control as the general out there. He saw that they were out there blitzing and he makes adjustments just like a great quarterback.”

Kings Head Coach Paul Westphal

“I can’t really find a whole lot of fault with our team effort. We’ve been having turnover problems that last couple of games and we kept our turnovers to a minimum. We got good shots for good shooters. We got the offensive boards and got second shots. We missed too much but that’s not an effort thing, that’s basketball.

On the other end, we were the victim of a hall of fame player having a hall of fame night. Steve Nash was unspeakably sensational with his decision making and his execution. We tried double teaming him, we tried making him score and take away his other options. We tried zoning. Everything we tried, he had the answer for. If I wasn’t sitting on the visitor’s bench, I would be applauding him because it was an unbelievable performance by Nash. I was proud of my team, we weren’t good enough tonight.”

Tyreke Evans

“I thought we played good. Nash was being Nash; hitting shots in the lane, pull ups. We couldn’t stop him tonight and that was pretty much it. But tonight as a team, we played well and fought the whole game. We just didn’t get the opportunity we needed and we didn’t make shots.”

(On Nash) “He changed the game. When he keeps his dribble, he makes switches happen and then he steps back and takes that high arcing shot that’s pretty tough to stop.”

(On Tonight’s Game) “Nash was having an unbelievable night. He was playing like…Steve Nash! He’s going to be a hall of famer one day and he’s an all star every year so he just played really well tonight and he took control and they came out on top. We didn’t play well enough to get the job done. We did some things that were positive and things we can grow off of and learn from, but not quite well enough to get the win.”
