 | Suns Head Coach Alvin Gentry
“We played well from the start to the finish. We hit a little snag in the fourth quarter, but I thought that was because we lost our focus a little bit. Everyone played well. I thought we did a good job on Chauncey, he seems to be the kind of guy that steps up in these kind of situations and comes up with big baskets and does some things. I thought we did a fairly good job of containing him. We did limit our turnovers; we ended up with 13 of them. I thought overall we did a good job. If you turn the ball over against these guys you have no chance. They lead the league in scoring off of turnovers, so if we could control that we did a pretty good job of playing against their switchers. We knew they were going to be a team that switches a lot. I thought we took advantage of that by making some quick decisions. When we did make quick decisions we were able to get the ball inside.” |

(On the Key to rebounding) 'Just going after it, just being aggressive. For the most part, being aware defensively. Being aware defensively always helps with rebounding. Just try to get us a better position. So, I think it is being aware and going after it. |

"We just went out there and were aggressive. Last time we were here we came in at 3 in the morning, battled and we were up by 20 and lost a close game. We remembered that. This is one of the top teams in the West and we want to be on their level and we want to get back to that level. (Personal night) "Just being aggressive on my end. We knew they were going to do a lot of switching and put a point guard on me. I went to the post and got some easy baskets.” |

"I will give Phoenix credit. I think it was one of their better defensive games against us. I think they gave Kenyon and Chauncey good defensive reads and we could never get into a good offensive strong flow. When we did get it around the rim they made some blocks and when we got the lay-up we didn’t finish all of them, so our offensive confidence was down. They are a good, tricky offensive team and when they are playing with confidence they beat you with the three-ball, which was a part of why we lost. (What frustrated you about a loss like this) "Winning brings arrogance, happiness and those are usually very bad traits to have on a basketball team. Traits you want on your team are hungriness, intense, confident. The Sacramento game had similar personalities to tonight. On your home court you should be annoyed when another team out works you.” |

"Our game plan started off with us switching everything and I think we should have stuck with our same pressure and rotate when we were supposed to rotate. It is tough to play against a team that can shoot that well. No matter how hard you rotate, no matter how hard you close out, they were hitting shots. It is tough to win a tough game like that. (Amar’e) He is a beast. He is aggressive. He developed that jump shot, so when you play on him you know he is going to drive. We knew he was going to drive right and kept letting him go right. He kept making free-throws on us. It is tough when you got a guy like that on the inside and guys shooting threes on the outside. (Aggression level) Some games we come out flat like that and we shouldn’t. They started off the game hot. It is tough to beat a team when they are shooting that well. We were trying to get into a shooting competition with them. We are the ones who are trying to go to the free-throw line and shoot 35-40 times a game. We didn’t do that and need to get back to that.” |

"It was tough all night. We just let them be in a comfort zone from the start of the game. We have got to take away lay-ups or we have got to take away threes and I think they got both tonight. They are just tough to beat; I don’t care where you are at. They are great shooters, shots. (Ankle) "I couldn’t get the lift I wanted. I was trying to go out and give the team what I had. I can’t really attack. I just wanted to be out there, even if I couldn’t do what I really wanted to do. We just needed more than that tonight.
(Aggressive lack tonight) "We definitely weren’t as physical as we would like to be and George was very vocal about that, which he should have been. They are not a tough team, they run up and down and want to shoot threes, but defensively they are really not that tough to be honest with you. They were tough enough to take care of us tonight.” |
